J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN SEIZED 03 TRACTORS ; FIR REGISTERED.

June 02: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Shopian Police seized three tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah of the district.

During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Post Keegam intercepted and seized three tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 103/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been set into motion.

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. J&K Police in Shopian Accords Warm Send-Off to Retiring Officer on Superannuation.

June 2: Shopian Police organised a farewell function to accord a warm send-off to a retiring officer on his superannuation.

Sub-Inspector Showkat Ahmad was given a heartfelt farewell by all ranks of Shopian Police on attaining the age of superannuation. On the occasion, a simple yet impressive farewell function was held at the DPO Shopian.

Speaking at the event, SSP Shopian lauded the dedication, commitment and exemplary service rendered by the retiring officer throughout his career. He conveyed his best wishes for a healthy, happy and fulfilling post-retirement life and presented a memento as a token of appreciation and respect for his outstanding services.

Moreover, Addl.SP Shopian, DySP Hqrs Shopian, DySP DAR Shopian and other police officers were also present on the occasion. June 02: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Shopian Police seized three tractors and two tippers involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah and Hermain area of the district.

During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Shopian intercepted and seized three tractors and one tipper involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 102/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been set into motion.

In a similar action Police party from Police Post Hermain seized one tipper found indulging in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard, FIR No.100/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.

J&K Police in Shopian Bids Warm Farewell to IPS Officer Chaitanya Giri on Completion of District Practical Training.

May 31: J&K Police Shopian today organized a warm farewell function in honour of IPS Officer Chaitanya Giri on the successful completion of his District practical training and tenure as Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Shopian.

The farewell ceremony was held at the District Police Headquarters Shopian and was attended by senior civil and police officers including the Deputy Commissioner Shopian and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian. The event was marked by heartfelt appreciation, camaraderie and recognition of the officer’s dedicated service and professional conduct during his attachment with District Police Shopian.

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian commended the officer for his professionalism, commitment and exemplary performance in the discharge of his duties. He appreciated the officer’s contribution towards strengthening public-police relations, maintaining law and order and effectively leading Police Station Shopian during his tenure. The SSP also highlighted the officer’s keen learning attitude and steady growth throughout the practical training period.

Crackdown on poppy cultivation continues in Shopian; Illegal Poppy Cultivation Destroyed; FIR Registered*

May 30: Sustaining its intensified drive against the drug menace, Shopian Police continued its crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation by acting on specific intelligence regarding poppy cultivation in the Chowan Keller area of the district.

Acting promptly on the information, a police team from Police Station Keller along with officials from Revenue Department reached the spot and detected illegal poppy cultivation on land belonging to Bashir Ahmad Parray son of Gh Hassan Parray resident of Chowan Keller. The illicit crop was immediately destroyed on the spot. In this regard, Case FIR No. 55/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation has been taken up.

Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and illegal narcotics cultivation from the district. J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN ATTACH IMMOVABLE PROPERTY ACQUIRED THROUGH PROCEEDS OF DRUG TRAFFICKING.

May 30: As part of its continued crackdown on narcotics-related activities, Shopian Police have attached an immovable property valued at ₹22.35 Lakh belonging to Gh Rasool Dar son of Lassi Mohd Dar resident of Khurampora Trenz Imamsahib. The property measuring 32 Marlas was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics. Accordingly, the said property has been attached in connection with FIR No. 35/2023 of Police Station Imamsahib.

The attachment proceedings were carried out in the presence of duly constituted police team, Executive Magistrate, Lambardar and Chowkidar, ensuring full compliance with all legal procedures and maintaining transparency.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN INTENSIFIES CRACKDOWN ON RASH AND HELMETLESS RIDERS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

May 27: Continuing its strict enforcement against traffic violations, Shopian Police intensified checking drives across the district to ensure road safety and encourage responsible driving habits.

During the ongoing campaign, hundreds of two-wheelers were seized and challaned for various violations including riding without valid documents, rash driving, triple riding, riding without helmets and other offences under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Special naka points and mobile checking teams were deployed at key locations to verify documents and take immediate action against violators. The drive was aimed at enforcing traffic discipline, preventing accidents and safeguarding the lives of commuters and pedestrians.

Shopian Police urged the public, particularly youth, to strictly follow traffic rules, wear helmets, avoid overspeeding and carry all necessary documents while riding. The department reiterated its commitment towards maintaining road discipline and ensuring safer roads across the district.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN ARRESTED DRUG PEDDLER; 07GRAMS HEROIN-LIKE SUBSTANCE RECOVERED.

May 27: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Shopian Police arrested one drug peddler and recovered He**in-like substance from his possession.

During routine naka checking at Shopian, a police party from Police Station Shopian observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. Upon search, a 09grams He**in like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Rashid Sheikh resident of Chawalgam Kulgam. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 97/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Shopian. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.
