Passport Office Shimla Regional Passport Office, Shimla was inaugurated on 16th March 2007. and dealing with entire state of Himachal Pradesh having 12 districts.

Regional Passport Office, Shimla was initially opened in 2007. It was inaugurated on 16th March 2007 by the then Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Anand Sharma in the presence of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sh Virbhadra Singh. It started functioning at Railway Board Building in carpet area of 3000 sq.ft. Inflow of applications at the time was around 1790

per month and around 1281 Passport were issued per month. The Passport Office, Shimla was dealing with entire state of Himachal Pradesh having 12 districts. There has been an upward growth in the number of Passport application and issuance in the last 02-03 years. In the Late 1990’s, the number of passport applications had gone up and trends were on rise. So, the Ministry of External Affairs has launched a Passport Seva Project (PSP) as part of Government of India’s e-governance plan on PPP Model in partnership with M/s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The PSP started functioning since 30.06.2012 at Mukund Complex, Panthaghati, Shimla as Passport Seva Kendra, Shimla with aim to significantly improve the delivery of Passport related services to the citizens in a more efficient, transparent, accessible and comfortable manner.
