Megha Health Insurance Scheme

Megha Health Insurance Scheme MHIS & PMJAY is a health insurance scheme introduced by the Govt. of Meghalaya. Rs 30 provides an in Megha Health Insurance Scheme is an initiative of the Govt.

of Meghalaya that has been designed in convergence mode with the Govt. of India’s existing health insurance scheme – Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). The scheme includes all the citizens of the state of Meghalaya except state and central government employee. The Megha Health Insurance Scheme (RSBY + UHIS) was launched on 15th December, 2012 at Polo Grounds by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Mu

kul Sangma with an objective to provide financial aid to all the citizens of the state at the time of hospitalisation and reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of the residents of the State. There is no age limit and pre-existing diseases are also covered under this insurance scheme. The insurance policy is valid for a period of one year, and beneficiaries are expected to renew their smart cards on a yearly basis by paying a nominal amount. The smart cards provided in this scheme can only be used in MHIS empanelled hospitals across the state and other tertiary care hospitals which have been empanelled under the scheme. There are hospitals outside the state that have been empanelled for critical care.

On 19th August 2026, Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, visited NEIGRIHMS Hospital, Shillong, to review the quality of patient experience and to discuss on the problems faced by patients of the state at the hospital.
The Hon’ble Minister emphasized that patient satisfaction, service quality, and reducing out-of-pocket expenses must remain top priorities.
His discussions with the hospital management highlighted the importance of ensuring healthcare that is compassionate, accessible, and truly centered around the needs of the patients.
