Meghalaya’s first Open Air Museum, the Twahlongwar Open Air Museum, was inaugurated on August 17, 2026, at Wahmawpat, Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills District.

The inaugural program was graced by Shri. Ollan Singh Suin, MLA, Mawsynram Constituency, as the Chief Guest, and Shri. Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie, MDC, Mawsynram Constituency, as the Guest of Honour. Smt. Rosetta M. Kurbah, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, delivered the welcome address. The event was also attended by other government officials, the village headman, and members of the local community.

The Twahlongwar Open Air Museum brings together archaeological research, conservation and community participation to preserve an abandoned mid-18th-century settlement in its original setting. A new space to discover, preserve and experience Meghalaya’s heritage.

The Pine Home Eco-Tourism Model Project was inaugurated on August 17, 2026, at Mawlangwir village, South West Khasi Hills District. The Chief Guest, Shri. Conrad K. Sangma, HCM, delivered the keynote speech, while Smt. Rosetta M. Kurbah, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, provided the welcome address. Shri. Prestone Tynsong, Dy. CM graced the occasion as guest of honour; Other officials included Dr. Shakil P. Ahammad, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya; and Smti. Aitinolin Mawlong, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District.

The program featured the unveiling of the inaugural stone for the Pine Home Eco-Sustainable Project, the felicitation of community members and architects, and the distribution of cheques to tourism beneficiaries. Additionally, Meghalaya’s first open-air museum, the Twahlongwar Open Air Museum, was inaugurated remotely during the event through a video showcasing the museum. K*m. Naphibahun Lyngdoh, who envisioned and developed the museum, was also felicitated on this occasion.

Pine Home is designed to serve as both a place for hospitality and a hub for the community, acting as a practical example of ecological design that blends sustainability, local expertise, and responsible tourism.

Meghalaya’s first Open Air Museum, the Twahlongar Open Air Museum, was inaugurated today, 17 August, 2026, at Wahmawpat, Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills District.

Located en route to Mawsynram, the museum is a heritage conservation initiative centred around an abandoned settlement, bringing its stories and cultural legacy into the heart of a living landscape.

The project brings together archaeological conservation, responsible tourism and community participation, creating a space where heritage can be preserved, experienced and passed on to future generations.

A new chapter in sustainable tourism begins in Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills.
The Pine Home Eco-Tourism Model Project was inaugurated today, 17 August 2026. Envisioned as a living model of ecological architecture rooted in the environmental and cultural context of the Eastern Himalayas.

Designed as both a hospitality space and a community hub, Pine Home will serve as a living laboratory for ecological architecture, bringing together sustainability, local knowledge, community participation and responsible tourism.

A step towards a greener, more resilient future for tourism in Meghalaya.

A program for the implementation of the Meghalaya Tourism Cab Booking App took place today, August 12, 2026, at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.

The event began with a welcome address by Shri. Philip F. Tariang, Deputy Director of Tourism, followed by a keynote address from Smti. Rosetta M. Kurbah, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Meghalaya. There was a presentation on the Meghalaya Tourism Cab Booking App, which included a PowerPoint presentation and a demonstration video by XLayer Technologies. This was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.

The program concluded with a workshop and training session for tourist taxi drivers and stakeholders, focusing on the implementation and operational use of the Meghalaya Tourism Cab Booking App
