Interaction of the Hon’ble Minister, C&RD with SHG Members of Mawskeithem and Umkynsier Villages

The Hon’ble Minister, Community & Rural Development, Government of Meghalaya, Shri S. Sohtun, visited Jirang C&RD Block, Ri Bhoi District, on 29th May 2026 and interacted with Self-Help Group (SHG) members from Mawskeithem and Umkynsier villages. The visit provided an opportunity for the Hon’ble Minister to engage directly with the SHG members and gain insights into their livelihood activities, achievements, and challenges.

During the programme, SHG members shared their experiences, achievements, and challenges in implementing various livelihoods and highlighted the positive impact of the Self-Help Group movement on their families and communities. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the dedication and hard work of the SHG members in promoting financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.

The field visit was also graced by the presence of Shri Chaitanya Awasthi, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer, Civil Sub-Division; Shri R. Brahma, MCS, Project Director, DRDA Ri Bhoi District; Dr. P. Hajong, Block Development Officer, Jirang C&RD Block; Smti I. Diengdoh, Joint Director, State Rural Employment Society (SRES); and Shri R. Kynta, Chief Operating Officer, Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS).

The Gender Resource Centre (GRC), Mawkynrew C&RD Block, was officially launched at Jongksha Village in the presence of distinguished guests, officials, community leaders, and SHG members. The programme marked a significant step towards strengthening gender support services and promoting women’s empowerment within the block.

The event was graced by Banteidor Lyngdoh, Hon’ble MLA of Mawkynrew Constituency, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included P. T. Passah, Project Director, DRDA-EKHD; G. Dhar, BDO, Mawkynrew C&RD Block; M. Kharmalki, SMM-SISD, MSRLS, along with representatives from line departments, CLFs, SHGs, village headmen, and community institutions.

The programme highlighted the objectives and establishment journey of the GRC, which aims to address gender-related issues, provide support services, create awareness, and promote social inclusion at the grassroots level. Speakers emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the centre’s effectiveness and accessibility.

Other key activities during the programme included:

* Sanction of Livelihood Service Centres to Ngin Iasnoh Bantei CLF and Synjam Bankiew CLF.
* Sanction of Cash Credit Loans to 2 SHGs.
* Sanction of CIF Loans to 3 MEIP beneficiaries.
* Felicitation of VLGF Nohron Village, Headman of Dienglieng Village, Smt. Pricibon Rynjah, and Smt. Aidakris Marboh for their contributions.
* Exhibition and display of SHG products.

The programme concluded with the formal inauguration of the GRC, which is expected to strengthen community support systems and contribute to the welfare and empowerment of women and vulnerable groups in Mawkynrew Block.

The Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS) Jirang C&RD Block, through the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) under the Gender Intervention programme, has successfully inaugurated the first-ever Gender Resource Centre (GRC) in the state of Meghalaya. This GRC, located in Patharkhmah Village, Jirang C&RD Block, was launched with the aim to provide essential services and support for women, girls, and marginalised communities in the region.
The Gender Resource Centre (GRC) will serve as a dedicated space for women and children and marginalise groups to access information on their rights & entitlements through government schemes, and support in times of distress. It will offer referral services in areas such as legal support, healthcare, police services, One Stop Centre services, and providing temporary shelter for individuals in emergency situation.

The Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), Jirang C&RD Block, under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) – Gender Intervention programme, inaugurated the first Gender Resource Centre (GRC) in Meghalaya at Patharkhmah, Ri Bhoi District.

The GRC aims to support women, girls, and marginalised communities by providing access to information on rights and government schemes, along with referral services for legal aid, healthcare, police assistance, One Stop Centre services, and temporary shelter in emergency situations.

The programme was graced by Shri Abhilash Baranwal, IAS (Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District), Shri Chatanya Awasthi, IAS (Sub-Divisional Officer, Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division), Dr. P.R. Hajong (BDO, Jirang C&RD Block), Smt. Memorial Kharmalki (State Mission Manager, MSRLS, Shillong), representatives from Shubham Charitable Trust, officials from various line departments, Sordars (village heads), CLF and VO leaders, SHG members, and community cadres.

The event also marked the opening of the Shrithai Shrup CLF Women Cooperative Society Ltd., the nodal CLF for managing the GRC. Highlights included distribution of Certificates of Appreciation, reusable sanitary pads, textbooks, and ₹10 lakh CIF loan support to SHGs, along with departmental service delivery and SHG product showcases.

Launching Mission 1000 Days in Meghalaya

The Meghalaya Human Development Council successfully launched Mission 1000 Days at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, on 31st March 2026 — a transformative initiative focused on improving maternal and child health, nutrition, and early childhood development.

The programme was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma as the Chief Guest, in the presence of government officials, health professionals, development partners, and community stakeholders, all united in their commitment to the well-being of mothers and children during the crucial first 1000 days of life.
