On the basis of a written FIR lodged by Smti. Balapynhun Nongrum, resident of Mawkyrwat Village, South West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, it was reported that her sister, allegedly died by su***de by hanging on the 19th April, 2026 at around 6:40 PM due to continuous blackmail, threats, and intimidation by an accused person who had allegedly threatened to circulate her private photographs and videos through WhatsApp and Instagram.
Accordingly, a case was registered vide Mawkyrwat Women Police Station Case No. 04/2026, U/S 77/79/351(3)/108 BNS, R/W Sec. 66E/67A IT Act and investigation was taken up immediately.
During the course of investigation, the accused person was traced to Surat District, Gujarat, and was arrested on 23rd June, 2026 at about 2:30 PM by a team of South West Khasi Hills District Police with the assistance of Palsana Police Station, Surat District, Gujarat. The details of the accused person:-
Shri. Sachin Nishad (22yrs) S/o. Yogendra Nishad
R/o. 687,Bhidoor, AmbedkarNagar, UP-224155, PS-Baskhri.
The accused is being produced before the Hon'ble Court today within the period of transit remand granted by the Learned JMFC, Surat.

The Hon’ble Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat convicted the accused, Shri Sushanto Hajong, Son of Shri Santosh Hajong, a resident of Photkroh Village, under South West Khasi Hills District for the offences charged in connection with Ranikor Police Station Case No. 17(09)2019, under Section 5(j)(ii)(l)/6 POCSO Act. and sentenced him to Rigorous Imprisonment for a period of 10 (Ten) years and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 (Rupees Fifteen Thousand) only. In default of payment of the fine, the accused shall undergo Simple Imprisonment for a further period of 02 (two) months.

The Hon'ble Special judge (NDPS), South West Khasi Hills District convicted the accused persons namely Shri Somison Sangma, Shri Gopal Borman and Shri Jenel D Sangma for the offence charged in connection with Ranikor PS case No 03(01)2024 under section 22(c)/29 of NDPS Act and sentenced them to Rigorous Imprisonment of 10 (Ten) years and with fine of Rs 100,000/- (Rupees One Lakh) each and in default of payment of the fine, the accused persons shall undergo Simple Imprisonment of 01 (One) month each.
