The project aims to initiate comprehensive services for deafblindness/MSI including early intervention, educational and vocational services in Goa so that maximum children with deafblindness/MSI have access to education and rehabilitation services. Since 2012, Caritas successfully initiated work with the Deafblind children in Goa. Caritas is the State Learning Centre in Goa for deafblind services
affiliated with Sense International India. In 2017 a full-fledged Centre was set up in Saligao and in November 2019 Caritas expanded its project in South Goa to enable the deafblind children and young adults to avail services daily. The Centre-based training integrates the expressed needs of the parents. We desire that the educators and other professionals engaged with the project will hand over the skills to the parents. We intend that parents become equal and important partners in imparting training to the child. The services provided are identification and assessment of deafblind children/young adults through functional and medical assessment; counselling services to the parents and the family members; providing homes and centre based, medical and nutritional support along with physiotherapy, speech therapy, vocational training, training in academics.
