🌟 India’s New Waste Rules Are Here — And They Affect Every One of Us! 🌟

The Government of India has notified the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026 — a landmark national law effective 1st April 2026, applicable to every city, town and village across the country.

Here’s what’s changing — and what YOU need to do:

Segregate waste into 4 bins at home:
💚 Wet — kitchen scraps, food waste
💙 Dry — plastic, paper, metal, glass
🧡 Sanitary — diapers, sanitary napkins
🖤 Special Care — medicines, bulbs, batteries

This is now mandatory by law — no more mixing waste!

🏢 Big buildings, housing societies, malls, hospitals & institutions must manage their own waste end-to-end or face penalties. ( Entities generating >100 kg/day of waste, with built-up area ≥20,000 sq.m, or water consumption ≥40,000 L/day are now accountable from generation to final disposal)

♻️ Waste will be recovered and recycled — not just dumped! Industries must now use Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) made from waste.

💻 A national digital portal will track waste across India — making everything transparent and accountable.

💰 Open dumping, burning waste, and non-compliance will attract fines under the Polluter Pays Principle.

India generates 1.85 lakh tonnes of solid waste EVERY DAY. These rules are our chance to change that.

GWMC is proud to be part in implementing these rules for Goa as part of this national movement. Let’s do our part — starting April 1, 2026! 🌴

Share this with your family, neighbours & your colony group — spread the word!

🚯 Action for a Cleaner Goa

An enforcement drive was conducted at Corlim to curb illegal roadside waste dumping through the joint efforts of GWMC, Goa Police (Old Goa), GSPCB, BDO Tiswadi, and the Corlim Panchayat.

During the drive, an instance of illegal dumping was identified and addressed immediately. As the individual was unable to pay the prescribed penalty, awareness through action was emphasized. The dumped waste was cleared, the area cleaned, and the waste secured in proper bags for safe transportation.

A gentle reminder to all:
🛣️ Roads are not dumping grounds
🌱 Clean surroundings are everyone’s responsibility

Let’s work together to keep Goa clean, green, and beautiful. 💚
