Hon'ble Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant today inaugurated the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF) named as Ponda Envocare at Pissurlem in presence of Hon'ble MLA of Poriem Smt. Dr. Deviya Rane , Former MP Shri. Ajay Sancheti and officials of GIEMA, GWMC, Govt. Goa.

The state of art facility is setup by SMS Envocare under PPP model in association with GIEMA and GWMC.

Facilities available at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility:-
• Secured Land Fill (Stabilization and secured land filling of hazardous waste) of capacity - 25000MT/Annum.
• Hazardous Waste Storage of capacity - 10000 MT.
• Pre-processing followed by co-processing to cement kiln of capacity - 25000MT/Annum.
• Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) followed by UF& RO of capacity - 85 KLD.
• Multi Effective Evaporator (MEE) of capacity - 100 KLD.
• Rotary kiln-based INCINERATION followed by waste heat recovery boiler (WHRB) & Special liquid waste disposal stream plant of capacity- 1.5MT/Hr.
• Boiler plant Solid fuel based of capacity – 8 Ton/Hr
• WTP plant & RO plant capacity – (600KLD / 200KLD)

Transformation of the Sonsoddo Dumpsite: A Five-Year Remediation Journey

The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has successfully completed a comprehensive remediation of the Sonsoddo dumpsite, eliminating nearly 1,87,000 cubic meters of waste. This extensive cleanup has paved the way for effective land reclamation, turning a long-standing environmental concern into a revitalized area. The entire process spanned approximately five years, marking a significant milestone in Goa's waste management efforts
