NIT Sikkim, in collaboration with the Indian Army, commemorated the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor in the esteemed presence of Col. Nitin Pandey, Gangtok Division, as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the significance of the operation and the decisive actions undertaken by the Indian Armed Forces, stating that remembering Operation Sindoor is a tribute to the spirit of “Nation First.”
Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director paid homage to the Indian Defence Forces and remarked that Operation Sindoor reflected the nation’s unwavering resolve against terrorism and the enduring values of “Nation First” and “Service Before Self.”
Students, faculty and staff witnessed multimedia presentations and documentary footage on Operation Sindoor, gaining insights into its ex*****on, modern warfare and the professionalism of the Indian soldier. The event was also attended by Subedar Satbir Singh, Hav. Saraj Singh, Hav. Sukhpreet Singh and Nk. Herkamal Singh.

The NEP Saarathi successfully conducted a program titled “Vaani: Celebrating Voices Across Languages” on 3rd May 2026 to promote the vision of NEP 2020. The event focused on enhancing multilingual awareness and student engagement through three interactive rounds: Idioms and Phrases (MCQ-based), Guess the Song (language identification), and Word Translation – Rapid Fire across five languages. Students actively participated in all the events, making the program engaging and impactful.

The event was graced by the presence of the NEP Nodal Officer, Dr. Achintesh N. Biswas, and Dr. N. C. Patel, HoD (EEE).

The Signal Processing and Acoustics Laboratory, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Sikkim, successfully organized a five-day advanced workshop on “AI Tools and Approaches for Speech Disorder Assessment and Healthcare” from April 20–24, 2026, with support from ANRF. The workshop featured eminent experts including Prof. M. C. Govil, Prof. Samarendra Dandapat, Prof. Priyankoo Sarmah, Dr. Nagaraj Adiga, Prof. Shrikanth Narayanan, Prof. Mikko Kurimo, Dr. Mathew Magimai Doss, Dr. Sudarsana Reddy Kadiri, Dr. Rohan Kumar Das, and others. It brought together participants from various institutions and focused on hands-on learning, highlighting AI-driven techniques for speech disorder assessment and healthcare while fostering innovation and collaboration. Sincere thanks to ANRF, NIT Sikkim, all speakers, participants, and organizers for making the workshop a success.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Sikkim, successfully organized an ANRF-sponsored 5-day Advanced Workshop on “Hardware Implementation of Digital Systems & RTL-to-GDSII ASIC Flow” from 13th to 17th April 2026.

The workshop was graced by eminent experts, including Prof. M. C. Govil, Dr. Satya Gupta, Sri H. S. Jatana, Prof. Virendra Singh, and Prof. Santosh Kumar Vishwakarma, witnessed participation from leading institutions across the region.

With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning in VLSI design, the program effectively fostered innovation, collaboration, and industry-relevant skill development.

Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Education, National Institute of Technology Sikkim was represented at the National Conclave on Endogenous Sustainable Development held at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Two officials from Sikkim Mr Rewa Nath Sharma and Mr. C. P. Sharma of Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology participated in the event.

The conclave was organized in collaboration with VIBHA, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Vijnana Bharati, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and National Innovation Foundation, among others. It focused on sustainability and technological interventions aligned with the national visions of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The event witnessed participation from NGOs, government officials, and technical institutions representing over 24 states across the country. A key highlight of the conclave was its emphasis on the “lab-to-land” approach, encouraging direct collaboration between technical and non-technical institutions to drive sustainable and inclusive development in line with the Government of India’s flagship initiatives.

DGRE successfully conducted a two-day Capacity Building Course on “Basic Functions and Operations of X-band Doppler Weather Radar (DWR)” at NIT Sikkim, Ravangla, bringing together 30 participants in total from DGRE (DRDO), Indian Air Force and NIT Sikkim. The programme featured expert lectures from former IMD scientists, ISRO scientists and industry partner ASTRA M/W Products Limited, fostering valuable knowledge exchange between academia, defence and industry. The inaugural function was graced by Prof. M. C. Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim, while the valedictory function was presided over by Dr. R. K. Garg, Centre Head, DRL (DRDO), Tezpur. Certificates were distributed to all the participants upon successful completion of the course. The programme was coordinated by Dr. M. S. Shekhar, Scientist from DGRE and marked an important step towards strengthening operational capabilities in advanced weather radar applications.

Abhiyantran 2K26, the annual technical fest of the National Institute of Technology Sikkim, was celebrated with great enthusiasm from 23rd to 25th April 2026. The fest witnessed active participation from students of NIT Sikkim, SIST, SMIT, and several other institutions.

A wide range of technical competitions showcased the creativity and innovation of young minds, including Hackathon, Maths Olympiad, Analysis Arena, Black Box, Circuit Debugging, Sand Rover, Robo War, Laws of Motion, Drone Racing, STPI Workshop, Best out of Waste, and more. The event also featured expert talks, workshops conducted by DRDO, and interactive technical sessions, providing valuable learning opportunities for participants.

On 25th April 2026, an Inter-School Innovation Expo was organized, in which 12 local schools participated enthusiastically, presenting their innovative ideas and projects.

Cash prizes along with mementos were awarded to the top three winners in each event, recognizing their outstanding performances and encouraging a spirit of innovation and excellence.

NIT Sikkim has donated 20 sets of desk-cum-benches along with essential working tools to Industrial Training Institute Kewzing as part of its community development initiatives.

During the visit, Prof. M. C. Govil, Director of NIT Sikkim, interacted with the faculty, staff, and students of ITI Kewzing. He emphasized the importance of practical learning and skill-oriented education to enhance employability and technical competence.

Prof. Govil encouraged the faculty members to visit NIT Sikkim for on-the-job training in relevant skill areas. He also invited students to explore the institute’s laboratories and workshops for advanced learning and exposure to modern technologies.

This initiative reflects NIT Sikkim’s commitment to strengthening grassroots technical education and fostering collaboration with local institutions for holistic skill development.

These SAARATHIs will serve as student ambassadors to promote the objectives of NEP 2020 within and beyond the Institute. The programme was conducted by the Nodal Officer (NEP), NEP Coordinator, and the outgoing SAARATHIs of 2025.
