Remembering Prof. Shankar Purushottam Agharkar

On the death anniversary of Prof. Shankar Purushottam Agharkar, the Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, pays respectful tribute to its distinguished founder and visionary scientist.

Prof. Agharkar’s pioneering contributions to botany, biodiversity and scientific research, coupled with his vision of building strong institutions for the advancement of science, continue to shape ARI’s enduring commitment to research and scientific excellence.

His legacy lives on through the Institute’s pursuit of knowledge, discovery and societal impact.

Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune hosted 20 IB Diploma Programme Biology students and 3 teachers on 25 August 2026 for an engaging exposure visit.

Students experienced a professional research environment and explored PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, antimicrobial resistance and electron microscopy, connecting classroom learning with real-world research.

ARI remains committed to fostering scientific curiosity and inspiring the next generation of young scientists.

Glimpses of the 80th Independence Day Celebration at Agharkar Research Institute, Pune

Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.

The celebrations commenced with the national flag hoisting, followed by the National Anthem and an address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Shekhar Mande, President, Maharashtra Association for Cultivation of Science and Chairman, Institute Council, Agharkar Research Institute.

The occasion also featured a felicitation ceremony recognising the achievements of the children of ARI employees who excelled in Classes X and XII, as well as ARI employees who successfully cleared the Hindi Language Proficiency Examination.

A celebration of patriotism, achievement and the spirit of excellence!

आघारकर अनुसंधान संस्थान, पुणे में 80वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस समारोह की झलकियाँ

आघारकर अनुसंधान संस्थान (एआरआई), पुणे में 15 अगस्त 2026 को 80वाँ स्वतंत्रता दिवस देशभक्ति और उत्साह के साथ मनाया गया।

समारोह का शुभारंभ राष्ट्रीय ध्वजारोहण एवं राष्ट्रगान के साथ हुआ। इस अवसर पर मुख्य अतिथि डॉ. शेखर मांडे, अध्यक्ष, महाराष्ट्र विज्ञान वर्धिनी तथा अध्यक्ष, संस्थान परिषद, आघारकर अनुसंधान संस्थान ने संबोधित किया।

समारोह में कक्षा 10वीं एवं 12वीं में उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन करने वाले एआरआई कर्मचारियों के बच्चों तथा हिंदी भाषा प्रवीणता परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण करने वाले एआरआई कर्मचारियों को सम्मानित किया गया।

This July, Pratyasha Nayak from Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, participated in the European Diatom Symposium held in Murcia, Spain. Travel for participation was supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) International Travel Grant (ITS), which promoted global scientific collaboration and strengthened international partnerships in diatom research. In a remarkable contribution to biodiversity research, scientists of Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune have discovered five new species of lichen-forming fungi belonging to the genus Allographa from the Western Ghats, one of the world’s richest biodiversity hotspots. These newly identified species not only enrich India’s known lichen diversity but also highlight the ecological significance of the Western Ghats and the importance of conserving these fragile forest ecosystems.

चतुर्थ अखिल भारतीय वैज्ञानिक एवं तकनीकी राजभाषा संगोष्ठी – 2026 का आज भव्य समापन हुआ! दो दिनों तक देशभर के 18 डीएसटी संस्थानों से आए वैज्ञनिकों ने रोचक एवं ज्ञानवर्धक शोध-प्रस्तुतियों के माध्यम से हिंदी को विज्ञान की सशक्त भाषा बनाने की दिशा में सार्थक योगदान दिया। आघारकर अनुसंधान संस्थान (ARI), पुणे में विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग के सहयोग से आयोजित यह संगोष्ठी राजभाषा हिंदी के प्रचार-प्रसार में एक और सफल एवं यादगार अध्याय साबित हुई।
