Autism Awareness & Advocacy Programme for Parents

CRC A&N Islands successfully conducted a focused and impactful Awareness and Advocacy Programme for parents of children with autism.

The programme was initiated under the guidance of Dr. Ferdnand Rodricks,CEO,Ferro Equip in collaboration with Dr. Biraj Mehta and team.

Key Highlights:

Dr. Parul Kumtha, Parent Advocate, shared legal and practical insights on supporting children with autism within the framework of the RPwD Act.

Mr. Tayzeem Rasool, Self-Advocate and a person with autism, shared his lived experiences, highlighting the importance of family support, self-confidence, and acceptance.

🚀 Successful Completion of National Level CRE Webinar on Psycho-Social Rehabilitation! 🎉

CRC Andaman & Nicobar Islands proudly organized a National Level Continuous Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Webinar on "Psycho-Social Rehabilitation" on 29th March 2024 with 172 enthusiastic participants from across India!
💡 The webinar aimed to enhance the skills and expertise of professionals working in psycho-social rehabilitation, providing valuable insights into community-based rehabilitation, cognitive rehabilitation, vocational training, and multidisciplinary approaches.

At the end of the webinar, RCI conducted a Slido evaluation, and the feedback reflected high levels of satisfaction and appreciation for the expert-led sessions.

*Empowering Abilities, Creating Opportunities!*
The Vocational Department of CRC, Andaman & Nicobar Islands successfully organized a Parents Training Programme on "Various Job Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities" on 19th March 2025 at the Seminar Hall, CRC, Brookshabad.
The program provided valuable insights into employment prospects, Skill Development Avenues, and Government support schemes available for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The highlight of the session was Career Couselling, Skill enhancement opportunities, Awareness of government initiatives and schemes and Success stories of empowered individuals. Altogerther, around 16 parents and other caregivers and career aspirants attended the session with lots of zeal.

A Rally by Divyangjan towards inclusive India-“Inclusive India –Everyone’s Right
A Rally by Divyangjan towards inclusive India was organized by Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration along with NGOs Handicapped Persons Association and Sahara (An Association of Divyang Persons).
Sugamya Yatra (An Accessible City Walk) commenced from Cellular Jail and conluded at Netaji Stadium today at 6.00 AM on 7th February 2025. The main objective of Sugamya Yatra is to assess the accessibility of public spaces for people with disabilities (PwDs). In this unique initiative, where Divyangjan will assess the accessibility of public spaces using AI-enabled ‘Yes to Access’ APP to evaluate accessibility, reinforcing the vision of a dignified, equal and opportunity –driven society for Divyangjans. Altogether 50 Divyangjans, many using wheelchairs and assistive devices, supported by dedicated staff braved the rally to make it a resounding success. The Director, CRC, A & N Islands extended heartfelt appreciation to the State Transport Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, for their invaluable support in providing bus services for Divyangjans to commute for the Rally Towards an Inclusive India.

On 06/01/2025, CRC A&N Islands conducted a Parent Training Programme (PTP) cm Workshop in observance of World Braille Day (Jan 4). The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC A&N Islands and saw the participation of around 70 parents. The sessions included "Parent Training Programmes: A Transformative Approach to the Development of CwSN" facilitated by Mr. Biswajit Roy, Administrative Officer, "Understanding Sensory Processing Challenges" by Mrs. Yogavathi Muthu T, Special Educator cm O&M Instructor and a hands-on activity session titled "Empower Your Child’s Senses: Affordable and Professional Home Solutions" led by Mrs. Saranyah R.K., Rehabilitation Officer. During the final session, parents actively engaged in creating sensory kits using materials available at home to support their children’s sensory needs with practical &cost-effective solutions.

On 20th December 2024, CRC A&N Islands organized a Parent Training Programme on Stress Management & Self-Care for Parents of PwDs. The session included two key segments: Mr. Jeo Paul, Assistant Professor (Clinical Psychology), presented on the psychological aspects of stress and strategies for managing caregiving-related stress, while Mr. T.Y. Abid, Lecturer (Physiotherapy), demonstrated physical exercises designed to relieve stress and promote well-being. The program aimed to equip parents with effective coping mechanisms, empowering them to manage their own stress while caring for their children with disabilities.

On 20th December 2024, CRC A&N Islands visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI) as part of the PM DAKSH. The visit was designed to empower individuals with disabilities (PwDs) by providing exposure to gardening and nursery management. Accompanied by CRC staff, the trainees received guidance from ICAR-CIARI experts, who also highlighted entrepreneurial opportunities. The initiative aims to equip PwDs with skills and confidence for financial independence.

On 4th December 2024, CRC A&N Islands celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with an inclusive excursion to Wandoor Beach for special children, their families, and caregivers. Sponsored by Atal Foundation, TAAN, and Hope Foundation, the event included recreational activities and lunch for the children and parents.

The CRC A&N Islands, in collaboration with TAAN and the Hope Foundation, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a focus on inclusivity and empowerment. The event began with a welcome address by Smt. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands, followed by motivational speeches and cultural performances. Chief Guest Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, and Guest of Honor Shri Ravinder (DANICS) graced the occasion.

Highlights included a talent show, art exhibition, a musical concert by ANCOL's BPA Music Department, and a pledge to promote inclusivity. A refrigerator was donated to the vocational training unit by Mr. Pradheep Kumar, a social worker. The celebration concluded with prize distribution and a vote of thanks, inspiring all to foster an inclusive society.
