The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in association with the District Judiciary and PRAYAS JAC Society, Sri Vijaya Puram, organized an insightful Medico-Legal Awareness Session for healthcare professionals at the Lecture Hall of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) Sri Vijaya Puram on 30th March 2026. The session was conducted in a hybrid mode, facilitating participation both physically and through an online platform.

The programme aimed to equip healthcare professionals from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and ANIIMS with essential knowledge relating to legal provisions, ethical responsibilities, and rights pertinent to medical practice.

The session was formally inaugurated in the esteemed presence of dignitaries from the District Legal Services Authority and the District Judiciary, along with Dr. Siddaraju, Director, Directorate of Health Services (DHS), and Dr. M. K. Saha, Director, ANIIMS. The programme was also graced by the presence of Ms. Marya Sheela, Regional Head, PRAYAS JAC Society; Shri K. Vijay Kumar, Advisor, PRAYAS JAC Society; and staff members of PRAYAS.

The programme was enriched by the presence of learned Judicial Officers who served as resource persons and delivered informative sessions on key medico-legal and social issues. The distinguished speakers included:

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. K. Saha, Director, ANIIMS, who expressed sincere gratitude to the speakers, ANIIMS, the Directorate of Health Services, PRAYAS JAC Society, and all associated authorities for their support. 1st NATIONAL LOK ADALAT HELD IN ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS

The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands successfully organized the 1st National Lok Adalat on 14.03.2026 at the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR Centre โ€“ PRAYAS, Port Blair, and the Sub-Divisional Court Complexes at Mayabunder and Diglipur, while proceedings at Campbell Bay were conducted through virtual mode. The Lok Adalat commenced functioning from 10:00 A.M. onwards.

A large number of cases, including pre-litigation matters and cases pending before various courts, were taken up for amicable settlement through the Lok Adalat mechanism.

At Port Blair, a total of 708 pending court cases and pre-litigation matters including bank recovery cases, BSNL recovery cases and registered pre-litigation cases were referred to the Lok Adalat. Out of these, 32 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were disposed of. The total involved amount of โ‚น1,62,62,797/- was settled for โ‚น97,78,000/-, thereby providing substantial relief to borrowers. A sum of โ‚น15,53,500/- was realized on the spot.

Further, 05 BSNL recovery cases involving an amount of โ‚น79,860/- were settled for โ‚น30,500/-, out of which โ‚น21,500/- was realized on the spot. In 02 registered pre-litigation cases, the involved amount of โ‚น14,10,000/- was settled for โ‚น12,10,000/-, out of which โ‚น11,000/- was paid on the spot.

Additionally, 418 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of โ‚น10,13,750/- was realized. In respect of Campbell Bay, 18 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act were disposed of through virtual mode, realizing a fine amount of โ‚น46,950/-.

At Mayabunder, one bench was constituted where 02 pre-litigation cases and 34 criminal compoundable cases were referred. 02 bank recovery cases were disposed of wherein the involved amount of โ‚น27,87,603/- was settled for โ‚น14,00,000/-, and โ‚น55,000/- was realized on the spot. Further, 45 pending court cases were taken up, out of which 24 cases were disposed of, realizing a fine amount of โ‚น12,700/-.

At Diglipur, one bench was constituted where 07 pre-litigation cases and 64 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred. 02 bank recovery cases involving โ‚น80,233/- were settled for โ‚น45,000/-, with โ‚น5,000/- realized on the spot. 01 BSNL case involving โ‚น3,971/- was settled for โ‚น2,000/-, which was realized immediately. In addition, 50 pending court cases were taken up, out of which 34 criminal cases were disposed of, realizing a fine amount of โ‚น1,01,450/-.

For the conduct of the Lok Adalat, four benches were constituted at Port Blair, one bench at Mayabunder, and one bench at Diglipur.

The benches at Port Blair were presided over by Neyaz Alam, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Port Blair; Souvik Ghosh, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 1st Court, Port Blair; Jayanta Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair; and Anupam Sircar, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court, Port Blair, along with panel advocates and social workers including R. Kritika, Advocate, Suvbra Barman, Advocate, Mohd. Sheheer, Advocate, Karishma, Advocate, Komal Anand, Social Worker, Marya Sheela (PRAYAS NGO), Mandeep Singh Gerewal, Social Worker, and K. Vijay Kumar (PRAYAS NGO).

The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Saurav Adak, Additional District & Sessions Judge (i/c), North & Middle Andaman, Mayabunder, along with Banani Biswas, Advocate and Katrina Barwa, Social Worker.

The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Somnath Das, Judicial Magistrate First Class, North & Middle Andaman, Mayabunder, along with Ranjita Sarkar, Advocate and P. J. Eappen, Social Worker.

The entire programme at Port Blair was organized by Samrat Roy, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Port Blair under the supervision and guidance of Sudhir Kumar, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The programmes at Mayabunder and Diglipur were conducted under the supervision and guidance of Saurav Adak, Additional District & Sessions Judge (i/c)-cum-Chairman, Sub-Divisional District Legal Services Authority, North & Middle Andaman, Mayabunder.

The National Lok Adalat once again proved to be an effective platform for amicable settlement of disputes, reducing the burden on courts and ensuring speedy and affordable justice to the public.

The Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (A&N SLSA) organized a Legal Awareness Programme at Saraswati Shishu Mandir Senior Secondary School, Pather Gudda, Sri Vijaya Puram, on the topic of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

The programme was graced by Shri Rashid Alam, Member Secretary, A&N State Legal Services Authority. The session was conducted by Ms. Anoushka Singh, Advocate, and Ms. K. Bhawani, Advocate, who sensitized the students on child rights and legal safeguards.

During the programme, the concepts of good touch and bad touch were explained in an age-appropriate manner. An awareness video prepared by the A&N State Legal Services Authority on child safety was also screened to enhance understanding among the students.

The programme witnessed active participation from the students and teaching staff of the school and was held in the presence of Shri V. D. Siva Balan, Advocate, Secretary of the School, and Shri A. Raja Marthandan, Principal of the School.

The programme concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants.

It is hereby notified for the information of all concerned that the Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India, has launched a 90-day nationwide drive titled โ€œMediation for the Nation 2.0โ€, commencing from 02nd January, 2026, with the objective of settling pending cases across Taluka Courts, District Courts and High Courts throughout India.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organized a Legal Awareness Programme on ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฌ๐˜๐—ต ๐—๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ at Tushnabad Gram Panchayat, in collaboration with IHRCCO.

The programme focused on creating awareness on key legal topics, namely Mediation, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, the POCSO Act, the NDPS Act, the POSH Act, and the rights of Senior Citizens.

The programme was graciously presided over by Shri Sudhir Kumar, Learned District Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 12th January 2026, Sri Vijaya Puram

On the occasion of National Youth Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in association with PRAYAS Juvenile Aid Centre (JAC), organised a Legal Services and Youth Awareness Programme at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DRBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram, on 12th January 2026 at 3:30 PM.

The programme was conducted with the objective of empowering students with legal awareness while inspiring them through the timeless teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda.

The event was graced by Shri Neyaz Alam, Learned Additional District & Sessions Judge, Port Blair, Shri Samrat Roy, Learned Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, A&N Islands, and Shri Anupam Sircar, Learned Judicial Magistrate First Class (Additional Court), Port Blair. The programme was also attended by Ms. Mariya Sheela, Regional Head, PRAYAS JAC, and Shri K. Vijay Kumar, Advisor, JAC. Students and faculty members of DRBRAIT participated actively in large numbers.

During the programme, Shri Neyaz Alam, Ld. ADJ sensitised the students on important social legislations such as the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting their relevance in protecting youth and society from crime, exploitation and substance abuse.

Shri Samrat Roy, Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, delivered an inspiring address on โ€œWe Are Children of Eternityโ€, elaborating on the life, philosophy and vision of Swami Vivekananda, and urging the students to imbibe his ideals of self-belief, character, discipline and service to the nation.

Shri Anupam Sircar, Ld. Judicial Magistrate, spoke on leadership, character and youth empowerment by reflecting upon the teachings and journey of Swami Vivekananda, and encouraged students to develop confidence, responsibility and moral strength in their personal and professional lives.

The programme successfully blended legal awareness with motivational guidance, leaving the students better informed about their rights and duties and deeply inspired by the message of National Youth Day.

The District Legal Services Authority and PRAYAS JAC expressed their sincere gratitude to the management of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology for their cooperation and hospitality, and to all the students whose enthusiastic participation made the programme a grand success.
