Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Sh. Shafkat Hussain (JKPS), accompanied by DySP Headquarters Poonch Sh. Neeraj Sharma and DySP Operations Sh. Azhar Amin, today visited forward border areas along the fence and interacted with the local population.

During the visit, a Public Durbar was organized wherein the SSP Poonch patiently listened to the grievances and issues raised by the residents. The locals highlighted concerns related to civic amenities, security, and cross-border challenges. SSP Poonch assured the public that all genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for prompt redressal.

While addressing the gathering, the SSP emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination between the police and the public, especially in sensitive border areas. In a significant step towards combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society, District Police Poonch, in coordination with the district administration, organized a large-scale Drug Awareness Rally under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.

The rally was conducted under the leadership of Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma, JKAS, Deputy Commissioner Poonch and Sh. Shafket Hussain, JKPS, SSP Poonch reflecting the strong commitment of the administration and police towards eradicating the menace of drugs from society.

The event commenced from the auditorium of Government Degree College Poonch and culminated peacefully near the historic Poonch Fort. Poonch Police Takes Action Against Illegal Mining; Vehicles Seized

Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining activities in the district, District Police Poonch took strict action at different locations and seized two vehicles involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of mining material.

Police Station Surankote (PS Surankote) seized a tipper bearing Registration No. JK02A-2416, which was found involved in illegal mining activities. Similarly, Police Station Gursai (PS Gursai) intercepted and seized a dumper bearing Registration No. JK12B-4185 carrying illegally mined material.

Both vehicles were taken into custody, and the concerned District Mineral Officer (DMO) has been informed in both cases for initiating legal proceedings under relevant provisions of law.

*Illegal Transportation of Bovine Animals Foiled, Five Bovines Rescued*

In a continued effort to curb illegal activities and enforce the law of the land, District Police Poonch successfully intercepted a vehicle involved in the unauthorized transportation of bovine animals.

Today a police team at Chandimarh intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing Registration No. JK12D-9139, which was on its way from Buffliaz towards Kashmir. During checking, the vehicle was found loaded with five bovine animals being transported without any valid permission.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Zaryat Hussain S/o Bagga Khan R/o Banola, Mendhar, was apprehended on the spot.

Police Station Surankote have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated further legal proceedings under relevant provisions of law.

Special Drive Launched to Check Misuse of Prescription Drugs; Medical Shops Inspected Across District

In a sustained and coordinated effort to curb the misuse and illegal diversion of prescription drugs, District Police Poonch, in close coordination with the Drug Control Department, conducted a comprehensive district-wide inspection drive today. The drive was carried out simultaneously across all Police Stations to enforce strict compliance with legal provisions governing the sale and distribution of scheduled drugs.

During the drive, a total of *54 medical shops* were inspected across the district.

Joint inspection teams comprising police personnel and officials from the Drug Department conducted thorough checks of medical establishments, including chemists, druggists, wholesalers, and retailers. The primary objective was to ensure adherence to regulatory norms and prevent unauthorized sale or misuse of prescription medicines.

During the inspections, special emphasis was laid on the following aspects:

*Verification of Records:*
Examination of mandatory sale registers for scheduled drugs to ensure proper documentation and traceability of transactions.

*Monitoring of Supply Chain:*
Scrutiny of stock registers and inventories to detect discrepancies, pilferage, or unauthorized diversion of controlled substances.

*Detection of Suspicious Activity:*
Identification of irregular or bulk transactions that may indicate misuse by addicts or illegal supply by peddlers.

*CCTV Compliance* :
Inspection of CCTV installations at medical shops to strengthen surveillance and deter unlawful practices.

Special checks on bulk purchase and sale of syringes, which could potentially be linked to drug abuse.
