SHARABLE TAXES REVENUE – REFUSED BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT: (Know the fact)
The Central Government collects Co-operative Tax, Income Tax, Wealth Tax, Toll Tax, Professional Tax, Central tax such taxes one specified portion ought to be shared with the states these recommendations are given by the Central Committee this is the constitutional provision, as per this since Puducherry does not have the status of state but is a Union territory this share has been refused. Therefore approximately every year 600 crores to 800 crores income is denied to Puducherry.
Adequate Disaster Relief Fund was not disbursed unprecedented Thane Cyclone damages had occurred, the Puducherry Government placed a demand of Rs.1200 crores on the Central Government, but the Central Government allocated only 125 crores. As a first installment only 55 crores was disbursed, N.R did not wait for the Central Funds for the people of Puducherry, N.R immediately released 101 crores for the affected Puducherry people.
The Central Estimate Committee recommended certain amount as damages, N.R. gave much more than this amount to the affected people.
In this the sad commentary that out of the 125 crores announced by the Centre only 70 crores have been received and the remaining was asked to be adjusted in forth coming budget plan.
