ABVP Demands CBI Inquiry into Rising Student Suicides at BITS Pilani

A shocking series of incidents has come to light in which 7 students at BITS Pilani — one of the country's most reputed and prestigious educational institutions — have died by su***de under severe mental stress. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad strongly condemns these extremely serious and sensitive incidents and has demanded that the cases be immediately handed over to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) for an impartial and thorough investigation.

It is becoming evident that behind these tragedies on campus, the causes are not limited to academic pressure alone, but also include drug abuse, family problems, neglect of mental health, and failures of internal administration. Despite this, there are growing suspicions that the police and institutional administration are hastily closing these cases without probing the root causes — a situation that is deeply concerning.

In the interest of student safety and institutional transparency, ABVP has placed the following demands before the Ministry of Education and the concerned administration:

- All seven student su***de cases must be investigated thoroughly by the CBI, so that the exact truth and the responsible parties can be brought to light.
- A detailed study of all these cases should be conducted and an official Status Report covering the campus environment, internal pressures, and administrative lapses should be made public.
- Although the institution claims to provide counseling services, these have proven to be wholly inadequate and ineffective. Therefore, independent external mental health professionals must be appointed and an effective 24-hour helpline must be established.

The tragic loss of a 17-year-old aspirant from Curtorim is not just heartbreaking — it is a damning indictment of the NTA’s careless and insensitive handling of students’ futures.

While the NTA hurriedly announces revised schedules, it cannot wash its hands of the immense mental trauma caused by its repeated “trial-and-error” approach. Students are not statistics, and examinations cannot be treated like experiments.

ABVP Goa strongly condemns this gross institutional negligence and demands that the NTA accept full responsibility for pushing students to unbearable distress. A postponed exam date may solve administrative inconvenience, but it cannot bring back a life lost to systemic failure.

ABVP Goa’s determined stand has led to a significant step towards ensuring fairness in the education system across Goa. Following consistent demands against arbitrary and excessive prospectus fees, the Education Department has issued a directive capping the price at ₹100, bringing much-needed relief to students and parents.

This decision, formalized through a notice by the Director of Education, reflects the strong impact of ABVP’s intervention on student-centric issues. ABVP Goa has welcomed this move as a progressive step towards transparency, uniformity, and affordability in the admission process.

ABVP has also affirmed that it will actively pursue the refund of excess amounts collected earlier from students, ensuring complete justice and accountability. Stop the Exploitation Through ‘Prospectus’ Fees by Higher Secondary Schools; ABVP Goa Demands Action from Education Department

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly condemned the ongoing practice of unauthorized fee collection under the guise of ‘prospectus’ charges by higher secondary schools in Goa during the admission process. The organization has taken an aggressive stance against the exorbitant amounts being charged from students in the name of prospectus fees.
To bring transparency and uniformity to this process, ABVP has proposed two key measures to the Education Minister and the Directorate of Education. Firstly, on the lines of many senior colleges that publish their information booklets online, higher secondary schools should make their prospectus available free of cost in PDF format on their official websites. Secondly, if printing costs are unavoidable, the price of the prospectus should not exceed ₹100 under any circumstances.
Just as higher education institutions are increasingly ensuring that prospectuses are easily accessible and often free during admissions, the same policy should be implemented by higher secondary schools. The Education Department should issue a government order capping the prospectus fee at a maximum of ₹100. Additionally, schools should not mandate the purchase of printed copies and must provide the option to download them online for free.
Strict action should be taken against schools charging excessive fees. Furthermore, students who have already paid such inflated charges for prospectuses during the admission process should be refunded.
ABVP Konkan Joint Secretary, Yash Kantak, stated: “While some schools provide information booklets free of cost, others are charging up to ₹1000. This disparity is unjust. A prospectus is meant to provide information, not to generate profit. If this exploitative practice that burdens students financially is not stopped and a cap is not imposed, a strong agitation will be launched in the interest of students and parents.”

ABVP Goa delegates has raised strong objections before the Director of Education over the arbitrary and excessive prospectus fees being charged by higher secondary institutions across Goa. It has been observed that while some institutions provide prospectuses free of cost, others are charging amounts up to ₹1000, creating disparity and burdening students.

ABVP has demanded immediate implementation of free online prospectus access or a uniform fee cap of ₹100 across all institutions. The delegation has also urged authorities to take strict action against institutions charging excessive fees and to ensure refund of the surplus amount collected from students.

Such measures are essential to uphold fairness and transparency in the education system and to safeguard the interests of students across the state.

To those who couldn’t clear it this time - do not lose heart. One result does not define your potential. This is only a pause, not the end. Come back stronger.
