The first phase is currently underway with 176 selected candidates, marking a significant step towards ensuring world-class beach safety and enhanced tourist protection along Odisha’s coastline.

This initiative by the National Institute of Watersports (NIWS), Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, and Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha aims to strengthen professional lifesaving skills, enhance coastal safety standards and support the growth of safe and sustainable beach tourism in Odisha.

🧘‍♀️✨ Celebrating International Yoga Day 2026 at NIWS-IITTM Goa ✨🧘‍♂️

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

NIWS-IITTM Goa celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm in association with India Tourism Goa. Faculties, Instructors, Staff and Students came together to practice yoga and embrace the harmony of mind, body and spirit.

The Yoga session was conducted by Yoga Instructors from the Indian Navy Physical Training School (INPTS) — LSPTI Amar and LSPTI Praveen, who guided the participants through various yoga practices focusing on fitness, mindfulness and overall well-being.

The session highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, concentration and a balanced lifestyle. Through every breath and every posture, the celebration reflected the true essence of yoga — unity, wellness and togetherness.

A comprehensive Safety Audit/ Physical Inspection was conducted at various watersports and adventure activity centers across North Bay, Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 04th June to 14th June 2026.

The inspection covered Watersports Centers, Parasailing Operations, Kayaking Centers, Seawalk, Submersible Scooter activities, Scuba Diving Centers and associated safety equipment to ensure adherence to safety standards and operational preparedness.

As part of the audit, rescue drills were conducted for Parasailing, Scuba Diving, Seawalk and Submersible Scooter activities to enhance the emergency response skills, safety awareness and competency of personnel in handling critical situations.

Safety remains the top priority in every adventure activity. 🌊🛟

🇮🇳 NIWS-IITTM Goa Welcomes Hon’ble Minister Shri V. Somanna

As part of the Pragati Path Yatra commemorating 12 years of the Government of India, Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Government of India, visited the NIWS-IITTM Goa Campus on 11th June 2026.

The Hon’ble Minister was accompanied by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Kedar Naik (Chairman, GTDC), Shri Rupesh Kamat (State Spokesperson, BJP), Shri Keshav Prabhu (BJP State Executive Member), Shri Dayanand Sopte (Senior BJP Leader), Shri Kishore Shastry, Ms. Yutika (Corporator, Panaji) and others.

During the visit, Dr. Pawan Gupta, Nodal Officer, NIWS-IITTM Goa, held detailed discussions with the Hon’ble Minister on the future roadmap for the development of watersports in India, with a strong focus on safety, skill development and sustainable aqua tourism. Discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration with the Railways and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, particularly in the field of rescue and safety training.

As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, the Hon’ble Minister and dignitaries planted five trees on the campus, coordinated by Shri Kamal K. Parashar, reinforcing the message of environmental stewardship.

A comprehensive presentation on the institute’s academic programs, research initiatives, consultancy projects, industry collaborations and MoUs was delivered by Dr. Prashant Udayakumar and Shri Sameer J. Kosbe. The event commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Charu Sheela Yadav.

The dignitaries also witnessed a live rescue demonstration at the swimming pool, showcasing the importance of professional rescue training and water safety.

The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the institute’s contributions towards safe watersports, tourism development, and skill enhancement, congratulating the faculty and staff for their dedicated efforts and extending his best wishes for the institute’s continued growth and success.

🌍 World Environment Day 2026 🌊

To commemorate World Environment Day, NIWS-IITTM Goa organized a beach clean-up drive at Caranzalem Beach today.

The drive covered approximately 2 km of shoreline, during which participants collected more than 20 bags of waste, including both biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. The waste was carefully segregated for responsible disposal.

This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Ayya Waste Management, City Corporation of Panaji and Bisleri International.

Faculty, staff and students participated with great enthusiasm and commitment, reinforcing the message:
