🌊 Advancing Safe & Sustainable River Rafting in India 🇮🇳

The NIWS Team successfully completed the 1st field visit for the Carrying Capacity Study of the sacred River Ganga, focusing on the stretch from Devprayag to Kharasrot.

📅 Study Duration: 6th – 10th April 2026

This important initiative aims to:
✔️ Assess the safe number of rafters and trips the river can support
✔️ Enhance operational safety standards for river rafting activities

👨‍🔬 Study Team:

Through such scientific assessments, NIWS continues to lead the way in promoting “Safety First” adventure practices while preserving our natural heritage.

🌊Recce of Tawi River Front, Jammu

The NIWS-IITTM, Goa successfully conducted a recce at the Tawi River Front on 23rd March 2026 to assess the potential for developing adventure watersports activities.

The visit was carried out by NIWS experts Mr. Ranjeet Singh, Manager (Training) and Mr. Sanjay Singh Sambyal in collaboration with officials from Jammu Smart City Limited, including:
• Dr. Davnesh Yadav, CEO, JSCL & Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation
• Er. Sunil Thusu, Director (Projects), JSCL
• Er. Rajesh Abrol, Senior General Manager, JSCL
• Er. Sachin Sawhney, Junior Engineer, JSCL

The recce focused on evaluating infrastructure, accessibility, safety aspects and the overall suitability for both motorized and non-motorized watersports.

Moving forward, NIWS will:
✔ Conduct a detailed feasibility study
✔ Develop a Water-Based Tourism Management Plan
✔ Establish safety and emergency response systems
✔ Frame SOPs as per national and international standards
✔ Initiate the signing of an MoU with JSCL

This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting safe, sustainable and world-class water-based tourism in Jammu. 🇮🇳
