The Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Vice President CSIR, Dr. Jitendra Singh, visited the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur (HP) on 28 May 2026 to review the institute’s progress. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General CSIR and Secretary DSIR, was present on the occasion. Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director CSIR-IHBT, welcomed the dignitaries and briefed them on the institute’s activities, including the Aroma and Floriculture Missions, which are contributing to improvements in the local economy and ecology. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi highlighted CSIR’s recent initiatives and technological achievements, emphasizing IHBT’s role in strengthening the bioeconomy through high-end science. She commended the institute’s contributions and extended her best wishes for its future endeavors. In his presidential address, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised IHBT’s scientific pursuits, particularly its work on Stevia and Tulip, and its support for start-ups. He noted the institute’s potential to lead the Himalayan Economy in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat, stressing that science must serve society and its benefits should reach the masses. The Hon’ble Minister also visited an exhibition showcasing IHBT technologies, took photographs at the Selfie Point, and joined efforts towards indigenous Hing production. On the occasion, six technology transfer agreements and one memorandum of understanding were signed, further strengthening IHBT’s impact and outreach.
