The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, organised an awareness programme on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) at Nongstoin to promote eco-friendly practices and reduce plastic pollution. 🌱♻️

Participants were informed about the Government of India’s ban on identified Single-Use Plastic items, effective from 1st July 2022. It was highlighted that only plastic carry bags of 120 microns or above are permitted ✅, while thinner bags remain strictly prohibited ❌.
Shopkeepers, vendors, and the public were urged to:
Avoid stocking or selling banned SUP items
Switch to reusable alternatives like cloth or jute bags 🛍️
Support enforcement efforts for a cleaner environment 🌍
Officials also informed that regular inspection and enforcement drives will continue in markets and commercial areas. Any banned plastic items found will be seized, and action will be taken as per rules.
Let us all work together to reduce plastic waste and protect our environment for future generations. 🌿
