Coonoor is one of the three Nilgiri hill stations – Ooty, Kotagiri and Coonoor – that sit high above the southern plains. However, no official announcement has come
about regarding the implementation of the project
to supply drinking water from Emerald source to
Coonoor. This project had also been announced
at the same meeting in 2013.
“We understand that in 2014, officials had
submitted to Government an estimate of Rs 154
crore for supply water Emerald water to Coonoor
municipality. However, even in this year’s Budget
submitted on Wednesday, fund allocation has not
been done. This is causing concern because
Coonoor is facing water scarcity and the officials
have been showing this project last year as the
permanent answer”,
