Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985. The Act (2 of 1986) came into effect from 13th February, 1986 by a notification issued in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary: Part-II [Sec. 3(ii): 13.2.1986). The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).

On 3rd June 2026, APEDA facilitated the first-ever sea shipment of 1 Metric Ton of Botanical-Infused Ready-to-Cook Millet Functional Foods from Karnataka to New Zealand, marking a significant milestone in India’s value-added millet exports.

The consignment, exported by M/s. Infini Agrotek LLP, Bengaluru, showcases India’s growing capabilities in millet innovation by combining traditional nutritious grains with modern food processing and botanical ingredients to meet evolving global consumer preferences.

The exporter leveraged opportunities under APEDA’s BHARATI Initiative, a dedicated programme supporting agri-startups and emerging exporters through market access, trade promotion and participation in major domestic and international trade fairs. These interventions helped the exporter establish global business linkages and access new overseas markets.
The shipment highlights the increasing global demand for innovative millet-based products and is expected to create greater opportunities for millet-growing farmers through enhanced demand, value addition and improved market access. It also reflects India’s commitment to promoting sustainable, nutritious and climate-resilient food systems through millet-led agricultural exports.

Baska’s Pure Honey Marks a Global Milestone.

In a significant boost to the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, the first-ever export of ODOP Honey from Baksa, Assam to the United States was flagged off through the initiative of APEDA on 9th May 2026.

The consignment of nearly 20 metric tonnes of honey, exported by APEDA-registered exporter Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., marks a major step towards empowering farmers, promoting products from Aspirational Districts, and strengthening India’s global agri-export footprint.

Sourced from eco-friendly and pesticide-free environments, the honey from Baksa district is known for its high quality and near-organic characteristics, reflecting the region’s rich biodiversity and sustainable agricultural practices.

Processed and packed in Guwahati, Assam, the shipment highlights the growing international recognition of quality Indian honey.
