Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Power, Shri Manohar Lal, chaired a comprehensive review meeting of key Missions and programmes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on 13 August 2026. The review covered progress of legacy waste remediation at the Bhalswa dumpsite, clean-tech start-ups supported under Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban, ongoing Swachh Survekshan and preparations for Swachhata Hi Seva. The Minister also reviewed the National Urban Digital Mission, progress of operational and ongoing Metro projects across the country and the PM e-Bus programme, besides taking stock of the implementation and progress of PM SVANidhi and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban, Government of India.

At the National Conference on Affordable Housing Reforms, focused deliberations were held across three key dimensions of the affordable housing ecosystem: Land & Urban Planning Reforms, Rental Housing & Vacancy Unlock Strategies and Making Affordable Housing Financially Viable.

The sessions showcased State experiences and innovative approaches in land and urban planning, while deliberations on rental housing explored regulatory reforms, rental housing exchanges and strategies to unlock existing housing stock and expand access to affordable rental housing.

The discussions also focused on strengthening access to finance for housing projects and homebuyers, with financial institutions sharing initiatives and approaches to make affordable housing more financially viable.

The deliberations will further help in preparing a roadmap for housing sector reforms and share progress made in implementing these reforms.
