At least four people were killed and another 10 injured in Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine on September 5.

In Kherson, Boryspil and the Kharkiv region, ordinary residential buildings were damaged. In Sumy and Mykolaiv, Russian drones struck shopping centres. In the Odesa region, a warehouse storing food products caught fire. Russia also carried out demonstrative, targeted strikes on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil.

💬 “Clearly, these Russian strikes on the airports are a reaction to the discussions and preparations for the possibility of the U.S. side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine and land at Kyiv Airport or Boryspil Airport. Russian-Iranian “shaheds” in response to American diplomacy,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, noting that Ukraine has taken note of this Russian move and will adjust its operation regarding Russian airspace accordingly next week.

Russia’s war crimes will not go unpunished. Russia will be held accountable for everything it has done. Ukraine is committed to bringing peace closer, and there are and will be no threats to diplomacy from our side.

🇺🇦 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

“The U.S. envoys will be in Ukraine and Russia in the coming days. We have the details from the U.S. President’s team. We discussed today that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Moscow and then Kyiv on Sunday.

We are preparing for the visit. There was a meeting with our broad diplomatic team – specifically, those who work with the United States. And just as we did during previous diplomatic visits by the American side, we will ensure the normal functioning of Russian airspace so that the negotiators can arrive safely. We are looking out for them, not for Russia. There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia must do the same, ensuring there are no air strikes from its side for the time needed to hold these talks and handle the logistical matters related to this American visit.

Our goal is to make the visit and the talks with the U.S. side as constructive and substantive as possible. We need to look for real options for how to move this war toward an end. We will see what proposals Steve and Jared bring and what they are told in Moscow in response.”

Since 27 August, Kyiv has faced wave after wave of Russian drones, with new threats emerging soon after previous ones have passed.

Alongside large-scale night attacks, Russia is increasingly sending smaller groups of drones during the day, including fast jet-powered drones that are more difficult to intercept.

Every launch puts lives at risk. Their relentless frequency adds another dimension to Russia’s tactic: keeping millions under threat, forcing people back into shelters, disrupting work, transport and services, and exhausting civilian life in the capital.

Russia is looking for new ways to escalate its war. Ukraine needs the means to counter them – more anti-drone capabilities, stronger air defence, and faster European production of the systems that protect Ukrainian skies.

Russia is adapting its attacks. Our ability to stop them must adapt faster.

🇺🇦 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

“I just held a meeting with the team engaged in negotiations with the envoys of the U.S. President. We are in communication with them virtually 24/7 and are now preparing for meetings. Tentative dates have been set. We expect to see the U.S. President’s envoys here in Kyiv. They confirmed they will have a meeting in Moscow and another one in Kyiv. We expect the latter to take place in the coming days. This is very important. It is important that America remain actively engaged. We are ready to meet with them in Ukraine – properly and substantively.”

🇺🇦🤝🇮🇳 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during his visit to Kyiv:

“I met with India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar. We discussed important issues. We are grateful to India for its commitment to ending this unjust war – Russia’s war against Ukraine. This certainly must not be a time of war. Peace is needed. This is India’s clear position. Today, while the Minister was here with us in Kyiv, Russia once again launched jet-powered “shaheds,” which were developed not without Iran’s help. Thanks to our combat aviation, the delegation was safe, because it is Ukrainian fighter jets that shoot down most of these drones. We hope that other major world powers will also take a clear stance that this war must end and that a reliable peace must be achieved.

Of course, we discussed the situation in the Black Sea, including the existing threats to civilian shipping. We concur that it is absolutely unacceptable to block food supplies to regions where this is a highly sensitive issue and where people depend on these maritime routes. Russia’s actions aimed at blocking our ports, our food corridor, and our supplies are causing major disruption to global relations. We must all work together to guarantee security.

Thank you!”

🇺🇦🤝🇮🇳On September 3, 2026 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Andrij Sybiha held talks in Kyiv with Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar:

“Honored to welcome my Indian colleague Dr. S. Jaishankar to Kyiv for the first-ever dedicated bilateral visit of an Indian External Affairs Minister to Ukraine.

This historic moment takes place amid escalating Russian attacks against our cities, port infrastructure, and civil shipping. Our capital is constantly under attack and I appreciate my colleague’s brave visit.

During our negotiations, we discussed the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and global food security. India is a global power and we welcome Prime Minister Modi’s call to move from an endless war towards an end to the war. Ukraine stands ready for diplomacy.

We also discussed our bilateral cooperation. From infrastructure and pharmaceutical sector to technological innovation and digitalisation, we are ready to realise our full potential.

We agreed to work on convening our next intergovernmental commission meeting to turn great perspectives into great mutually beneficial projects.”

Ukraine has informed the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) that Russian airspace is not safe for civil aviation due to increased military activity and urges everyone to avoid it.

Commenting on this step, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha emphasized that Russia has been deliberately ignoring the existing threats as a result of its aggression against Ukraine, which has already led to several incidents in the past years. Against the backdrop of Russia’s drastic escalation of terror against Ukraine, Russian airspace is becoming increasingly unsafe.

This is Ukraine’s responsible decision to notify ICAO and all airlines, and governments to take caution – even if Russia refuses to fulfill its responsibility to inform them.

💬 “We want to prevent unintended incidents.

The war is returning home to Russia. Ukraine exercises its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” noted Andrii Sybiha.
