I SEE YOU — Artur Żurawski | Exhibition Opening

What a memorable evening at Anant Art Gallery for the opening of I SEE YOU, the photography exhibition by Artur Żurawski.

The evening began with welcoming remarks by Darpana Kapoor, Director of Anant Art Gallery, and Meera Menzes, Director of the Anant Foundation, followed by remarks from Dr Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi, and Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Director of the Polish Institute.

It was wonderful to see so many friends of the Polish Institute and Anant Art Gallery, as well as artists, photographers, members of the cultural community, and art lovers, who came together to celebrate the opening with us.

The evening was filled with inspiring conversations, new encounters and reflections on photography and the way we see the world — perfectly reflecting the spirit of I SEE YOU.

A heartfelt thank you to Artur Żurawski for sharing his work with us, to Anant Art Gallery for hosting the exhibition, and to everyone who joined us and made the evening so memorable.

A different lens on the world of cinema. Artur Żurawski's photographs step away from the rehearsed frame to capture quieter, unscripted moments on set, when actors are at ease and the camera becomes a witness rather than an observer. Through these photographs, Żurawski turns his cinematographer’s eye towards the people and encounters that exist around the making of a film.

This photograph features Żurawski with actor Rani Mukerji, with whom he worked as Director of Photography on Mardaani (2014) and Mardaani 3 (2026).

Polish Cinema Makes Its Mark! 🇵🇱🏆

Actor Vipin Sharma’s short film Kamathipura Express, directed by Leon Korzynsky of the Warsaw Film School, Poland, has won the Silver Medal at the Student Academy Awards! 🎉
It won the silver medal out of 2,972 entries from 894 colleges and universities worldwide,” Sharma says.
He adds that the film will now compete in the Best Short Film category at the Oscars.

A wonderful achievement celebrating talent, storytelling, and the growing creative connections between India and Poland. 🇮🇳🤝🇵🇱

Introducing the Artist | Artur Żurawski (b. 1972, Szczecin, Poland) is a Polish cinematographer and visual artist based in Warsaw. A graduate of the Polish National Film School in Łódź (2000), he is a member of the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC) and the Polish Filmmakers Association. His career spans features, television, documentaries, and international co-productions across Europe and Asia. Beginning in photography as a teen, Żurawski entered the film industry in 1995. He maintains an ongoing daily photography practice, notably "Project Z" (started in 2001). His diverse cinematography credits include internationally acclaimed feature films such as Mardaani (2014), Sultan (2016), Bhoomi (2017), Lokatorka (2021), Where Would You Like to Go? (2023), Idź pod prąd (2024), and Mardaani 3 (2026). His honours include Filmfare Award nominations for Mardaani and Golden Lion recognition at the Polish Film Festival for Idź pod prąd. Alongside his camera work, Żurawski has mentored at institutions like the Asian Film Academy and AMA Film Academy, and evaluates cinematic restoration for the Polish Film Institute. He is celebrated for merging strong visual compositions with an instinctive, character-driven narrative approach.

Artur Żurawski's solo I See You previews at Anant Art on Thursday, 20 August 2026, and the exhibition will be on view until 29 August 2026.

Internationally acclaimed for his work on films such as Mardaani, Sultan, and Bhoomi, Żurawski began his artistic journey through photography, a practice he has continued alongside his career in cinematography. Created during film productions across Europe and Asia, the exhibition brings together black-and-white portraits of directors, actors, crew members, and local collaborators, revealing the invisible community behind every finished film and celebrating the human connections that make cinema possible.

I SEE YOU is an acknowledgment. It says: I recognise you. I am present with you. You are not passing unnoticed.

On 3 August 1924, Polish noble, English writer and sailor Joseph Conrad (Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski) passed away, leaving behind one of the most influential bodies of work in English literature.

Best known for Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, and Nostromo, Conrad explored themes of colonialism, morality, identity, human nature, and the complexities of the modern world.

Born in Berdychiv in 1857, Conrad was Polish by birth and heritage, yet went on to become a major English-language novelist. His unique perspective—shaped by his Polish roots and life at sea—continues to give his work a distinctive place in world literature.

🇵🇱 Remembering the Warsaw Uprising | 1 August
On 1 August 1944, the people of Warsaw rose against N**i occupation in one of the most significant acts of resistance during the Second World War.

Led primarily by the Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa), the uprising began at 5:00 p.m., known as “W-Hour” (Godzina W), with the aim of liberating Warsaw and asserting Poland’s independence.
Despite fierce resistance for 63 days, the uprising ended on 2 October 1944. Around 15,000–18,000 Polish resistance fighters were killed, while an estimated 150,000–200,000 civilians lost their lives. Much of Warsaw was subsequently destroyed.

Each year on 1 August, Poland comes together to commemorate the Warsaw Uprising. Across the country, memorial ceremonies are held, while at 5:00 p.m. (W-Hour) sirens sound and people pause in remembrance, with Warsaw serving as the focal point of the national commemoration.

The Warsaw Uprising remains a powerful symbol of courage, resilience, sacrifice and the enduring struggle for freedom.

🇵🇱 Maria Skłodowska-Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, as well as the first person, and the only woman, to win it twice. Even though she became very successful, she never forgot her home country, Poland. She proudly supported Poland and wanted it to become an independent country again.

🧪 Alongside her husband, Pierre Curie, she discovered radium and studied the effects of radioactivity. Together, they also discovered polonium, a chemical element named in honor of Poland, which drew the world's attention to the country's plight under foreign partition. This remarkable couple's work was a milestone that paved the way for further research into radioactivity. Madame Skłodowska also made history as the first female professor at the Sorbonne.

⚛️ The brilliant scientist lived to see her homeland return to the map of Europe. In 1932, in a newly independent Poland, Maria Skłodowska-Curie and Polish President Ignacy Mościcki opened the Radium Institute, a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center. Founded on Skłodowska’s initiative, the facility operates to this day as the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology.
