Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in coordination with West Bengal SDMA and all key stakeholders, conducted a State-level Mock Exercise on Oil & Chemical Disasters on 21st August 2026. The exercise tested preparedness and operational coordination for effective response to major industrial emergencies.

The Mock Exercise brought together West Bengal State & District authorities NDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Police, Health Services, SDRF, Coast Guard, Armed Forces, Port authorities and participating industries as Whole-of-Government & Industry Approach. The exercise reinforced Unified Command and Unity of Efforts for coordinated response to oil & chemical emergencies.

From incident alert and situation assessment to HAZMAT response, control zones, decontamination, evacuation, medical triage and relief arrangements—the Mock Exercise tested critical response mechanisms at multiple industrial locations across West Bengal.

The State-level Mock Exercise on Oil & Chemical Disasters provided an opportunity to review DM Plans, strengthen Incident Response Teams, assess resource and first-response capabilities & identify gaps for improvement for Preparedness today strengthens resilience for tomorrow.

National Disaster Management Authority, India, in coordination with Chhattisgarh SDMA and all key stakeholders, conducted a State-level Mock Exercise on Floods from 18th August to 20th August 2026 across the State.
The exercise tested preparedness, coordination, resource mapping and response capabilities for effective flood management.

As Whole-of-Government Approach for Flood Response, the Mock Exercise brought together State & District administrations
NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Police, Health, Civil Defence, Home Guards, local bodies, community volunteers and other stakeholders.
The exercise strengthened inter-agency coordination for a faster and more effective response.

India and Sri Lanka strengthen cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Under the MoU between NCGG and Govternment of Sri Lanka,
National Disaster Management Authority, India hosted an interactive Disaster Risk Reduction session chaired by Ms Rita Missal, Member, NDMA for Sri Lankan Civil Servants participating in the capacity-building program for 1,500 officials.

The session showcased India’s Disaster Management framework and key initiatives in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), recovery and reconstruction. The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, share good practices and strengthen cooperation on disaster risk management.

Ms Rita Missal, Member National Disaster Management Authority, India, highlighted the shared geographical and disaster-risk profile of India and Sri Lanka, particularly the threat of cyclones. Referring to Cyclone Fengal (2024) and Cyclone Ditwah (2025), she stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation, preparedness and knowledge-sharing to build disaster-resilient communities.

🛢️ Strengthening Preparedness for Oil & Chemical Disasters

A Tabletop Exercise (TTEx) was conducted in Kolkata on 17 August, 2026 as part of the State-Level Mock Exercise on Oil & Chemical Disasters in West Bengal.

The exercise brought together State and Central Government agencies, institutions and IIT Kharagpur to strengthen coordination, preparedness and response capabilities.

Chaired by the Principal Secretary, Disaster Management Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha, DG, State Fire Services and DG, Civil Defence, West Bengal, the exercise saw participation from 7 districts.
