Happy Europe Day to you all. Today marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, a moment that fundamentally shifted the course of history by prioritising cooperation over conflict.

It is a day to look at the European project for what it is: a bold, ongoing project in “unity in diversity.” The principles of peace and solidarity that 9 May represents remain as relevant as ever.

Today, 5 May, the Netherlands celebrates Liberation Day. It is a moment to reflect on the end of the Second World War in 1945 and the restoration of the freedoms we hold dear today.
The significance of this date remains unchanged. Freedom is a fundamental value that requires constant reflection and responsibility.

Today we honour the history of our liberation and the democratic principles that continue to guide the Netherlands and our international partnerships.
Liberation Day serves as a reminder that peace and liberty are maintained through the choices we make every day.

Kochi, we are here!🇳🇱⚓️

After crossing thousands of miles the His Netherlands Majesty’s Ship (HNLMS) De Ruyter has arrived to the vibrant naval city of India-Kochi. This is our first port call and is part of Pacific Archer 2026 to promote freedom of navigation and keep strategic shipping route secure, the Netherlands aims to strengthen diplomatic, security and economic ties.

In coming days we are looking forward to meet our Indian Navy colleagues, exchange knowledge and showing that India is one of the important partners in the region as we have shared interests for a safe and secure Indo-Pacific region.

Geachte leden van de Nederlandse gemeenschap,

Wij willen u laten weten dat de jaarlijkse herdenkingsdag op 4 mei dit jaar niet in New Delhi, maar in Kochi zal plaatsvinden. De reden hiervoor is dat een Nederlands marineschip op die datum Kochi zal aandoen, en in dat kader leek het passend om de herdenking ook daar te houden.

We would like to inform you that the annual Remembrance Day on May 4th will not take place in New Delhi this year, but in Kochi. The reason for this is that a Dutch naval ship will call at Kochi on that date, and in that context, it seemed appropriate to hold the commemoration there as well.
