Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to stop female foeticides and arrest the declining s*x ratio in India. The main purpose of enacting the act is to ban the use of s*x selection techniques before/ after conception and preventing the misuse of prenatal diagnostic technique for s*x selective abortion.The Act mandates compulsory registration of all diagnostic laboratories, all genetic counselling centres, genetic laboratories,ivf facilities, genetic clinics and ultrasound clinics. The PCPNDT Act has several deterrent provisions against them who indulge in s*x selective actions. CT/MRI/BScan/Ultrasonography/IVF centres are registered under the PC PNDT Act in the state.The main purpose of the Act is to prevent the misuse of medical tech before and after conception for the purpose of gender biased s*x selection.
