ICAR-National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research ICAR- NIAP was established by the ICAR in March 1991 to strengthen agricultural economics and policy research in the national agricultural research system.

The National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NIAP), is a premier agricultural economics research institution in India. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) established NIAP in 1991 with a view to strengthen agricultural economics research through integration of economics input in planning, designing, and evaluation of agricultural research programs and enhancing the competence in agricultural policy analysis within the National Agricultural Research System. NIAP undertakes and sponsors research in agricultural economics and policy analysis in technology policy, sustainable agriculture, market and trade, institutional change and growth and modeling in agriculture. NIAP has 18 research scientists including the Director. Dr. Usha Ahuja, is the Director of NIAP. A Management Committee consisting of senior research administrators and other stakeholders representative including farmers, advise NIAP on research administration relations to Agricultural Economics and Policy Planning in Indian Perspective. A number of other internal committees also facilitate the decentralized management of the activities of NIAP.

Tailoring Machine, Biofertilizers, and Vegetable Seed Distribution Programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SC-SP)

On 29–30 July 2026, ICAR–National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (ICAR–NIAP) organized a Tailoring Machine and Input Distribution Programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SC-SP) in Narshingpura and Jairampura villages of Jaipur district, Rajasthan.

During the programme, 56 tailoring machines were distributed to women beneficiaries, with the support of the Village Pradhan and the Block Development Officer, to promote self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities. In addition, vegetable seed packets and biofertilizers were distributed to farmers to encourage sustainable agricultural practices and enhance crop productivity.

The programme was organized by Dr. Subhash Chand, Principal Scientist, along with Dr. D. C. Meena and Mr. Arvind Kumar, Young Professional-II.

Tailoring Machine, Biofertilizers, and Vegetable Seed Distribution Programme under SC-SP

On 8 July 2026, ICAR–National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (ICAR–NIAP) organized a Tailoring Machine and Input Distribution Programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SC-SP) in Hurthala and Azampur Dariyapur villages of Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh.

During the programme, 50 tailoring machines were distributed to women beneficiaries, with 25 machines provided in each village, to promote self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Additionally, vegetable seed packets and biofertilizers were distributed to farmers to encourage sustainable agricultural practices and enhance crop productivity.

ICAR–NIAP Organizes Kisan Diwas and Live Telecast of 23rd PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Installment Programme

ICAR–National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (ICAR–NIAP) organized Kisan Diwas and facilitated the live telecast of the 23rd PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Installment Programme at Raksheda Village, Panipat District, Haryana, on 20 June 2026.

During the programme, Dr. Vinayak Nikam, Dr. Dinesh Chand Meena, Senior Scientist, and Mr. Arvind Kumar (YP-II) interacted with farmers and created awareness about balanced nutrient management, efficient fertilizer use, and the promotion of bio-fertilizers for sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Vinayak Nikam emphasized the importance of balanced nutrient management, soil testing, and scientific fertilizer application for maintaining soil health and enhancing crop productivity. Dr. Dinesh Chand Meena highlighted the role of bio-fertilizers in reducing fertilizer costs, improving soil fertility, and ensuring sustainable agricultural production.

Around 150 farmers actively participated in the programme and engaged in discussions on cost-effective and environmentally friendly nutrient management practices. The scientists provided guidance on the adoption of bio-fertilizers and sustainable farming techniques to improve agricultural productivity while conserving natural resources.

On this occasion, bio-fertilizers were distributed among the participating farmers in the presence of Shri Ramadhan Saini, Sarpanch of Raksheda Village. The programme served as an effective platform for disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among the farming community.

ICAR–National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (ICAR-NIAP), New Delhi, successfully organized a panel discussion on “Empowering BRICS+ against Climate Shocks: Pathways to Resilience and Sustainability” as part of India's BRICS Presidency initiatives.
The discussion brought together distinguished experts from diverse fields to deliberate on critical issues related to climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, climate justice, agricultural risk management, climate finance, and food security.
