Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, chaired the 21st CMC Meeting (Part 2) with Principal Secretaries of States, reviewing key progress on river conservation and pollution management initiatives.
Detailed review covered projects across 18 States, focusing on industrial pollution management, discharge from industries, solid waste management status, number of polluted river stretches, and progress of pending projects.
The Committee also undertook a detailed review of progress in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh.
Emphasis was laid on accelerating ongoing works and ensuring timely completion of projects to improve river water quality and strengthen on-ground implementation.
Shri Kantha Rao directed States to prepare a comprehensive Action Plan for 2026–27, with a focus on sustainable and outcome-driven interventions.
States were also advised to adopt and implement policies for reuse of treated wastewater, taking cues from best practices in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
