NCPCR was set up in March 2007 under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, an Act of Parliament (December 2005). The Commission's Mandate is to ensure that all Laws, Policies, Programmes, and Administrative Mechanisms are in consonance with the Child Rights perspective as enshrined in the Constitution of India and also the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

NCPCR remains committed to ensuring that every child in India enjoys a safe, secure, and dignified childhood. With the Constant support of Ministry of Women and Child Development, under the dynamic leadership of the Hon’ble Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt Annapurna Devi, and the Hon’ble Minister of State, Smt Savitri Thakur, and continuous encouragement by Secretary, MWCD, NCPCR has achieved significant milestones during 2025-26. These include:
• ⁠Resolved over 36,000 pending complaints, clearing 70% of backlog
• Rescued over 4,100 trafficked children, with over 2,700 successfully rehabilitated.
•. Over 2,100 children repatriated to Child Care Institutions in their home districts.
• Enabled adoption of Sugar Board initiative across 24 States/UTs, covering ~7 lakh schools, following sustained engagement with education authorities; an initiative appreciated by the Hon’ble Prime minister.
•. Successfully carried Anti Trafficking Campaign - “बाल तस्करी से आजादी”, across 200 districts, strengthening nationwide action against child trafficking.
•. Organized 61 awareness conferences and workshops across national, regional, state, and district levels on key child protection laws, including POCSO Act, JJ Act, RTE Act, and child health.
•. Induction of technology at large scale - merging of multiple portals of NCPCR and bringing them on better and faster platforms.
• Developed a new portal for international child rights protection.

Prompt action by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annapurna Devi, led to the safe recovery of the missing siblings from Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The National Commission for Protection took suo moto cognizance of the case. Member Secretary, NCPCR immediately engaged with the Jharkhand Police and remained in constant coordination.

NCPCR reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety, and well-being of every child.

On 9th January, 2026, NCPCR successfully rescues 6 minor girls and 3 women from a red light area in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The operation was carried out with the active cooperation and commendable support of the local Police and administration.

FIR registered and necessary legal action has been initiated. Rescued children have been provided with care and support.

NCPCR reiterates its zero-tolerance approach towards child trafficking and remains steadfast in ensuring the safety, protection, and rehabilitation of every child.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), in collaboration with the District Administration, Hyderabad, successfully organised a Conference on Key Child Rights Issues on 07 January 2026 in Hyderabad, Telangana.

The programme was graced by District Collector & Magistrate, DCP (Women Safety), Hyderabad, SCPCR, Telangana, and senior district officials.

Subject Expert Resource Persons from NCPCR and Hyderabad emphasized the importance of a child-centric, rights-based approach and highlighted the need for continuous capacity building of stakeholders working with and for children. The discussions also stressed proactive prevention, timely reporting, and coordinated response mechanisms to ensure a safe and enabling environment for every child.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of collective commitment to work together for effective implementation of child protection laws and to ensure a safe, secure, and enabling environment for every child.

Under the campaign “बाल तस्करी से आजादी 3.0”, the NCPCR held a meeting with the senior officials of Police and District Administration of 37 Bordering and adjoining Districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir, Leh-Ladakh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh.

Living up to its commitment to combat child trafficking, NCPCR rescues 4 minor girls from red light area in Sitamarhi, Bihar with the assistance of the local Police & an NGO.

Necessary legal action has been initiated, and traffickers involved have been taken into the custody. The rescued children have been provided with immediate care, protection and support.

NCPCR reiterates its zero-tolerance approach towards child trafficking and remains steadfast in ensuring the safety, protection, and rehabilitation.

NCPCR repatriates children to Child Care Institutions (CCIs) of their home town or nearby town through its initiative called GHAR.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Dr Sanjeev Sharma, Member Secretary, NCPCR undertook the review meeting of Northern Zone .

So far, NCPCR has repatriated over 2000 such children in this financial year.
