🥗👞 Imagine using someone else's shoe size and hoping it fits perfectly.

For a long time, India was doing exactly that—but with our food!

In this episode, we explore the quiet yet monumental work of nutrition science. This film takes you back to the era when Indian diets were planned using borrowed data from other countries. 🌍

Discover how pioneers at ICMR National Institute of Nutrition asked the critical questions that led to India's very first Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). 📊🧬

How did this living rulebook evolve from fighting hunger in the last century to battling modern health challenges like obesity today?

🔬 Igniting the spark of scientific curiosity among young minds! 🧠✨

To connect the youth of our nation with health research, science, and innovation, ICMR proudly organized SHINE 2026. On August 11-12, students visited 83 ICMR institutes across the country, experiencing hands-on lab tours, live scientific demonstrations, and engaging interactions with our leading scientists.

Our goal? To foster a scientific temper and inspire the next generation of researchers to explore the limitless possibilities in health innovation! 🇮🇳🧪

🎙️ Tune in to the latest episode of ‘Countrywide’ by All India Radio News for a special conversation. Listen to Dr. Rajiv Bahl (Secretary DHR & Director General, ICMR) in conversation with Harsh Ranjan as they discuss the vision and impact of SHINE 2026.

🔬 ICMR SHINE: Bringing Science Closer to Young Minds

ICMR concludes the two-day SHINE Students Outreach Program, bringing biomedical science closer to students across India, including those from remote and underserved regions such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

From laboratory tours and research exhibitions to Mobile BSL-3 demonstrations and interactions with ICMR scientists, SHINE took science beyond textbooks and into hands-on experience.

🌐 ICMR has also launched the official SHINE website (https://shine.icmr.org.in/) and announced a nationwide school competition, inviting students to identify public health challenges and develop innovative, research-driven solutions.

🗓️ Applications open until 11 September 2026.

🚑 Imagine the hospital reaching YOU instead of you reaching the hospital! ✨

In this episode, we take a closer look at a true medical marvel and a flagship ICMR initiative: Mobile Stroke Units (MSUs). 🚀

India's geographically varied landscapes, rough terrains, and impassable forests pose immense challenges to emergency healthcare. This film takes you back to the inception of the MSU, when we asked a bold question: What if, instead of the patient racing to the hospital, the hospital raced to the patient? 🤔💡

When it comes to a stroke, every. single. second. counts. ⏱️🧠

🎬 Watch the full video to see how this incredible "hospital on wheels" is bridging the distance and making the ultimate difference.

🔬 SHINE 2026 | Igniting Scientific Curiosity for Viksit Bharat @2047 🇮🇳

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) hosted SHINE (Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorers) on 11 August 2026 at ICMR-NIMR, bringing together school students for an enriching outreach experience aimed at nurturing scientific temper, curiosity and innovation. The initiative encourages schools to inspire their students to explore science, health and innovation and become the problem-solvers of tomorrow.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, DHR & DG, ICMR, addressed the young participants and encouraged them to remain curious, pursue science and envision themselves as contributors to India’s future.
Through engaging videos featuring the SHINE mascot, Dr. Curio, students discovered how ICMR’s biomedical research and innovations are helping address public health challenges and making health solutions accessible to communities.

💡 As part of the SHINE Competition 2026, school students are invited to identify an everyday public health problem and propose an innovative solution. With the theme “Igniting Scientific Curiosity among Youth for a Viksit Bharat @2047,” SHINE encourages young minds to observe, question, and innovate for a healthier India.
