Swachh Bharat Diwas & SCDPM 6.0 at IMD,New Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) observed Swachh Bharat Diwas on 01 October 2026 at IMD Headquarters, New Delhi, under the guidance of Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, IMD.

The occasion also marked the kick-off of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 6.0, reaffirming IMD’s commitment to Swachhata, efficient workplace management, cleanliness and good governance.

Officers and staff participated in cleanliness and awareness activities, reinforcing the message that Swachhata is a collective responsibility and an integral part of a clean, efficient and sustainable workplace.

The observance marked the beginning of SCDPM 6.0, with renewed focus on cleanliness, disposal of pending matters, better management of records and spaces, and creating a culture of efficiency and accountability across the organisation.

❖ The line of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through 32.5°N/72.5°E, Gurdaspur,
Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa, Naliya and 23.0°N/67.8°E.
❖ Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Punjab,
Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh; most parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh; entire Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal
Pradesh, Uttarakhand; some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra during next 24 hours.

Weather Systems, Forecast and Warnings :

❖ Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over North Myanmar and adjoining areas of southeast Bangladesh, Mizoram
& Northeast Bay of Bengal lay over North Myanmar and adjoining Mizoram-Tripura at 1730 hrs IST of
yesterday and became less marked at 0530 hrs IST of today, 02nd October. The remnant upper air cyclonic
circulation lies over North Myanmar and adjoining Mizoram-Tripura in lower & middle tropospheric levels at
0830 hrs IST of today, 02nd October.
❖ An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Sikkim & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels
❖ An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.
❖ An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Arabian sea off Keralam coast in lower tropospheric

Seasonal outlook for Rainfall during Post-Monsoon Season 2026 and Rainfall and Temperature during October 2026

a) Seasonal rainfall during October to December (OND) over South Peninsular India consisting of five meteorological subdivisions (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka) is most likely to be normal (88-112% of Long Period Average (LPA)). Most parts of the country are expected to receive below-normal rainfall, except some areas of Northwest India and southern parts of the peninsular India, where rainfall is likely to be normal to above-normal.

b) Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole during October 2026 is likely to be below normal (

Salient Features of the 2026 Southwest Monsoon Season

· Out of the 36 meteorological subdivisions, eighteen subdivisions, constituting 53% of the area, received normal rainfall, while 17 subdivisions, representing 42%, recorded deficient rainfall. The remaining one subdivision (Odisha), covering 5% of the country’s total area, experienced excess rainfall during the season.

· Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole was 65% of LPA in June,101% LPA in July, 84%LPA August and 92% of LPA in September.

· There were 14 low pressure systems, including six Monsoon Depressions during the season, out of that three intensified in to Deep Depression. There were 77 Low Pressure System Days against its normal 57 days.

The seasonal forecast issued by IMD for the SW monsoon season rainfall was accurate and within the forecast error limit, while the forecasts of ENSO and IOD conditions were broadly consistent with their observed evolution. However, the forecast of monsoon onset over Kerala was 8-day early as compared to actual date of onset.
