DHAVAL LAKSHMI'S JOURNEY -THE ENTIRE PATH

Dhaval Lakshmi was released back into the Arabian Sea from Dahanu, Maharashtra on November 20, 2025 after months of treatment and rehabilitation.

By late April and early May 2026, satellite tracking confirmed that she had turned back from near Oman and re-entered Indian waters.

SHE WAS RESCUED HALF-DEAD… THEN SWAM 3,500 KM ACROSS THE OCEAN

She was discovered injured and tangled in a fishing net off the coast of Dahanu, Maharashtra. Her front flippers were badly damaged, and at one point, her chances of survival seemed very slim.

After months of treatment and rehabilitation, conservationists attached a small satellite tracker to her shell and released her back into the Arabian Sea. They named her Dhaval Lakshmi.

What happened next amazed marine researchers.

Unlike most tagged Olive Ridley turtles that remain near India’s western coastline, Dhaval Lakshmi swam nearly 3,500 kilometers across the open Arabian Sea, traveling so far that she almost reached the coast of Oman.

Then came the unexpected turn.

Just as scientists believed she might continue toward Oman’s continental shelf near Masirah Island — one of the world’s recognized turtle nesting regions — she suddenly changed direction and began making her way back toward Indian waters.

Her story became even more remarkable because out of the eight turtles tagged in Maharashtra, Dhaval Lakshmi was the only one that had first been rescued, treated for injuries, and rehabilitated before release.
