A National Campaign for Gender Equality was launched at Namchi Municipal Hall on 1st September 2025, bringing together SHGs, community leaders, Panchayat members, and government officials to promote equal rights and opportunities for all genders.
Tshong Doma Tamang, Assistant Project Manager, BMMU SRLM/RDD, welcomed the participants. Mrs. Srijana Sharma, President BDS Namchi, briefed on SHG structures and schemes at the village, GPU, and block levels.
The Block Project Manager highlighted the importance of gender equality, shared the Share Work, Share Growth” concept, and acknowledged SHGs’ role in grassroots awareness. BDO Mr. Upendra Rai spoke on women’s empowerment, safe spaces, and equal opportunities. Mrs. Kala Pradhan, Chairperson of the Food Processing Department, emphasized community-led initiatives and youth involvement in bridging gender gaps.
IEC materials were distributed, and the program concluded with a Gender Pledge led by Mrs. Pradhan, with all SHG members participating.

BMMU attended A three-day refresher training programme for Block Level Officers under the Aspirational Block Programme focusing on Social Development and Financial Inclusion was successfully conducted at the North Eastern Regional Centre, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Guwahati, from 10th to 12th November 2025.

20th September Coordination Meeting at Namchi
A coordination meeting was convened under the Chairmanship of Mr. Upendra Rai, BDO-cum-Executive Magistrate, Namchi at Municipal Hall, Namchi. The meeting brought together three newly appointed SHG Chairpersons — Mrs. Khus Maya Tamang (Water Resource Dept.), Mrs. Kala Pradhan (Food Processing Industry), and Mrs. Doma Lepcha (Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Dept.), along with BDS Namchi & SRLM officials.

In her welcome address, BDS President Mrs. Srijana Sharma emphasized the importance of convergence between SHGs and line departments. Block Project Manager Mrs. Geeta Chhetri shared insights on SRLM’s intensive works, SHGs, Federations, and BDS in Namchi Block.

The Chairpersons highlighted government support to SHGs, departmental schemes, and their commitment to assist SHG women. They motivated members towards discipline, self-reliance, and preparation for International Women’s Day 2026.

BDO Namchi, Mr. Rai, congratulated the Chairpersons, stressed on roles and responsibilities of SHGs, and assured support from the BAC administration, including the upcoming BDS office at the new BAC premises.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by BDS Treasurer Mrs. Jayanti Manger, and the program was conducted by MC Mrs. Savitri Chettri.

Mega Camp on Jansuraksha Campaign under Financial Inclusion Saturation Held at Namchi
On 22nd August 2025, a Mega Camp on Jansuraksha Campaign under the 3-Month Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign, launched by the Department of Financial Services, Government of India, was held at Town Hall, Namchi. The programme was organised by the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) Sikkim in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI).

The camp highlighted the importance of social security schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY), aiming to ensure universal financial inclusion and social protection for every household.

On this occasion, SHG members interacted with the Regional Director of RBI, Gangtok, making it an inspiring moment that reflected women’s participation and empowerment in financial inclusion initiatives.
