Day 5: Virtual FDP on Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Technology

We are glad to share the successful completion of Day 5 of the Six-Day Virtual Faculty Development Programme on Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Technology, organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Stella Mary's College of Engineering, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India) – Kanyakumari Local Centre.

The Day 5 session on “Advanced Metallic Materials in Bulk and Porous Form” was delivered by Dr. Suresh Neelakantan, Associate Professor, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

The session offered a comprehensive understanding of advanced materials, where the speaker clearly explained concepts such as Dual Phase Steel, TRIP Steel, TWIP Steel, and Titanium Alloys, covering fundamentals to real-world applications. Special emphasis was given to plasticity-induced transformation in bulk structures and auxetic materials in porous structures.

The use of in-situ microstructural deformation videos made the session highly engaging, enabling participants to visualise material behaviour and better connect theory to practical applications.

Participants actively engaged throughout the session, making it highly informative and impactful.

With the programme nearing its conclusion, we look forward to the final day of this enriching FDP.
