Consul General of Afghanistan, Zakia Wardak, Assures Safety of International Students at Gujarat University

Yesterday Consul General Zakia Wardak embarked on a visit to Gujarat University to address concerns following the recent assault on international students for offering namaz at the university hostel in Ahmedabad. The incident, which occurred last Friday, sparked fears among the international student community and raised questions about their safety and well-being.
During her visit, Consul General Wardak met with the affected students to understand their experiences and offer her support. She was deeply moved by their accounts and expressed her gratitude for the swift response of the local authorities, particularly the Ahmedabad city police.
In a meeting with Police Commissioner Gyanendrasingh Malik, Consul General Wardak received assurances regarding the safety of the students. Commissioner Malik outlined the steps taken by the police, including the appointment of a new GPS to the police station near the university and the arrest of five individuals involved in the incident. He reiterated the commitment of the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice for the victims.
Subsequently, Consul General Wardak held discussions with Dr. Neerja, the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University, and Mr. Surender Kumar, the head of Gujarat University ICCR. Dr. Neerja conveyed her deep regret over the incident and explained the measures taken by the university to enhance security for international students. She emphasized that Gujarat University has always been a safe and welcoming environment for students from around the world and reiterated its commitment to their well-being.
To conclude her visit, Consul General Wardak joined the international students for Iftar at their new hostel. She reassured them of their safety and encouraged them to continue their studies and activities without fear. She expressed her confidence in the Indian police force and the support of the Indian government in ensuring the security of all students, both domestic and international.
