Enslaved by TIME
Chapter –21
Bubble called – life
As the Buddha prepared to depart from this world, his closest disciple, Ananda, approached him with a heavy heart. Ananda, filled with deep reverence and curiosity, asked, "Gautam, who are you truly? Are you a messiah, a god, a preacher, or a guru? When you have left us completely, how should we describe you to those who seek to understand your essence?
The Buddha, with a serene smile, replied, "Ananda, I am neither a God nor a messiah, neither a preacher nor a Guru. I am simply one who has awakened, while others still slumber in the dream of ignorance. This is the only truth you need to share: I have awakened to the reality of life and death, to the nature of existence, and to the path that leads beyond suffering. The rest, my dear Ananda, are but labels and illusions."
With these words, the Buddha gently reminded Ananda—and all of us—that enlightenment is not about titles or roles. It is about awakening to the true nature of existence, transcending the illusions that bind us, and guiding others towards that same awakening.
We know the bubble will burst one day. But we deceive ourselves, pretending it will last forever. Even with this knowledge, we choose to ignore it, telling ourselves, "It won’t happen today." So, we avoid the truth, opting instead to live in the comforting illusions of life.

“Happiness, and the pursuit of it, is the greatest trap of life. What we call happiness—momentary relief, fleeting joy, or a ‘feel-good’ sensation—is nothing more than an illusion.”
During a conference in Gurugram, Kanika, a student at Xavier College, asked questions about happiness. I responded that I do not seek happiness through conventional means like family, celebrations, awards, or achievements, as I see it as part of the same illusion. When she asked what I was searching for, I replied, “Life and death—the beginning and the end.”
My quest is to explore human existence, our origins, and the cycle of birth and death. My words left the audience reflective, momentarily awakening them from their unconscious drift—just as my book aims to awaken me from sleepwalking through life.

Today, the world might have been different—more peaceful, even in the face of conflicts—if we had truly heeded the teachings of Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi). His simple yet profound message of peace and coexistence, even with our differences, was a path away from destruction.

Yet, here we are, on the brink of another world war. As we commemorate his birthday, it feels deeply tragic that five nations are bombing each other, a sombre reminder of how far we've strayed from his vision of a harmonious world.
