H.E. Bart De Wever, Prime Minister of Belgium, made history with the first-ever visit by a foreign Prime Minister to the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), Mumbai, marking a significant moment in the enduring India–Belgium relationship.
Welcomed by India’s gem & jewellery industry, the Prime Minister reflected on the century-old *India–Antwerp connection, built on trust, craftsmanship and generations of shared enterprise.

During his visit to BDB, H.E. Bart De Wever also graced the Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association (M**A) and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) with his warm presence, engaging with industry stakeholders.
Speaking on the road ahead, H.E. Bart De Wever called for turning the India–EU partnership into “economic value”, while GJEPC Chairman Mr. Kirit Bhansali highlighted Belgium’s potential as a gateway for Indian businesses to Europe.
A landmark visit that brings together history, diamonds, trade and trust—and looks ahead to a stronger India–Belgium partnership.
