Muktangan

Muktangan We provide quality, child-centred, inclusive English-medium schooling to thousands of underprivileged children in Mumbai.

We do this by training teachers from the same neighborhoods as the students, creating empowered change agents. A meaningful partnership begins with a shared dream for children.

Today, we marked an important milestone as we signed the MoU with Kindred Foundation for the adoption of our N.M. Joshi Pre-School, helping make joyful and meaningful early childhood education accessible to young learners.

As beautifully expressed by Rita & Satyanarayan of Kindred Foundation:

“Dreams don’t come true at a fixed time like a date on a calendar—they come true when preparation, effort, and opportunity meet.”

This partnership reflects that very belief.

It is built on the understanding that quality education in a child’s early years has the power to nurture confidence, open doors to opportunity, and become the first step towards breaking the cycle of poverty.

We are deeply grateful to Rita, Satyanarayan, and Ms. Urvashi, Director of Kindred Foundation, for their trust, generosity, and commitment to creating spaces where children can learn with joy and dignity.

At Muktangan, we believe that when people come together with care and purpose, communities can learn and grow together.

We invite more individuals and organizations to join us on this journey. Together, we can create meaningful learning spaces where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

What happens when students step into a world they’ve never seen before?

As part of the Mukt Minds programme, our Grade 10 graduates recently visited Whistling Woods International, where they got a glimpse into the world of media, filmmaking, and creative arts.

From direction and acting to animation and sound, students explored how stories come to life. For many, this was their first introduction to careers in this space.

Moments like these expand what feels possible. They help students imagine new pathways, ask new questions, and see themselves in spaces they may not have considered before.

At Muktangan, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to explore, discover, and choose their own journey.

Behind every child exploring their future is a circle of people helping them believe in what is possible.

As part of the Mukt Minds Career Ready Program, Grade 10 students recently visited Somaiya Vidyavihar University for an enriching exposure to higher education spaces and future pathways.

The visit gave students the opportunity to explore the campus, interact with faculty, and learn about different academic streams and career options. Experiences like these help children imagine new possibilities and make informed choices about what comes next.

Alongside the field visit, a parent counselling session created space for families to reflect together on post-Grade 10 options, identify student strengths and interests, and support thoughtful decision-making.

Moments like these reflect the people who make Muktangan what it is: students discovering their path, parents walking beside them, and educators creating opportunities that open new doors.

We are grateful to Usha Rana for helping make this experience possible.

We are honored to share that Muktangan Education Trust has been awarded the Foundation NGO Privilege Level at the TTata Mumbai Marathon2026.

This recognition reflects the strength of a community that believes in learning and growing together.

Every step taken in support of Muktangan helps create opportunities for children to learn with confidence, for teachers to grow in their practice, and for families to be active partners in every child’s journey.

It is through this shared commitment that meaningful learning becomes possible.

We are deeply grateful to the team at Tata Mumbai Marathon for this recognition, and to every donor, partner, and supporter who continues to walk alongside us.

This milestone belongs to everyone who believes that when communities come together, children can truly learn and grow.

Some celebrations reflect everything a community stands for.

At Elphinstone School’s Annual Day, students, teachers, and parents came together in a joyful celebration of the relationships that make learning meaningful.

As students took the stage through dance, theatre, and music, they brought confidence, creativity, and joy to life. Behind every performance was the care of teachers who nurtured each child’s journey, and the presence of families whose support made every moment more meaningful.

The evening was also a reminder that opportunities like these are made possible through the generosity of partners and donors who believe in creating joyful and enriching spaces for children. Their support helps ensure that every child has the chance to learn, express themselves, and shine with confidence.

Every performance reflected the spirit of the Muktangan community: children discovering their voices, teachers guiding with dedication, families celebrating alongside them, and supporters making these journeys possible.

At Muktangan, this is what the community looks like where everyone learns and grows together!

Learning continues for those who create learning spaces.

We are happy to share that our educator Nitya was selected as a Fellow for the K. V. Raghavan Fellowship by Agastya Foundation, with Safina joining as an Observer.

Through the programme, they participated in a workshop in Kuppam, engaging with ideas around collaboration, innovation, and effective teaching practices. An immersive visit to the Agastya Creativity Campus offered a closer look at experiential learning in action.

Moments like these create space for reflection, new perspectives, and deeper engagement with the practice of teaching.

Every achievement is shaped by many hands and hearts.

Behind every student milestone is the effort of a child, the encouragement of teachers, and a community that continues to believe in their potential.

We are proud to celebrate Vineel Krishna from Elphinstone School for securing the Silver Prize in the Homi Bhabha Science Exam conducted by the Mumbai Science Teachers Association.

Moments like these reflect the quiet work, persistence, and support that help children grow with confidence and continue striving forward.

Field visits offer powerful opportunities to see early learning practices in action. Recently, the Muktangan team from Nanded visited an Anganwadi centre in Kinhola village, Basmat Taluka, supported by QUEST, to observe the Palavee Project.

The team saw how structured routines and simple, joyful activities encourage active participation and meaningful learning. It was inspiring to observe Sevikas confidently facilitating sessions and creating engaging, child-friendly environments.

The visit also included enriching conversations with the Sevika on everyday experiences of running the centre. Damini shared insights into the Palavee Project, while Sachin reflected on its progress and impact in Basmat Taluka.

Muktangan team members also shared learnings from the Anganwadi Transformation Project in Naigaon and Kandhar, making this a valuable exchange of ideas and practices.

Such visits strengthen learning through observation, reflection, and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of continued support for Anganwadi workers.

We are grateful to the QUEST team for hosting us and sharing their journey.

Every classroom holds many worlds within it.

Children come with diverse languages, experiences, and ways of learning. When this diversity is valued, it enriches learning for all.

In the concluding session of our School Transformation Webinar Series, we reflected on Classroom Practices for Inclusion- and how inclusive pedagogy can become part of everyday teaching.

With insights from Mr. Subir Shukla, Dr. Ankur Madan, and Ms. MANJUSHREE PATIL, the conversation explored responding to diversity, Universal Design for Learning, and creating classrooms where every child can participate with dignity.
