On July 24, 2026, Gateway House held a discussion with Canadian delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the Director General of South Asia, Jean-Christian Brillant; the Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in India, Mark Allen; and the Senior Advisor, Karina Sihota.
The discussion offered insights into India's evolving role in South Asia's economic and strategic landscape. The conversation particularly involved India's deepening engagement with Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on infrastructure development and energy cooperation as pillars of regional integration. The discussion also further explored India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and how it tends to increase its footprint in shaping South Asia’s landscape.
