Mr. Tashi Dhondup, Chairman of Choephelling Tibetan Service Co-operative Society Limited, Miao, along with Secretary Mr. Tenzin Tsering, took part in the 25th Annual Conference of 15 Tibetan Cooperatives in India, held in Dharamsala from 27th to 30th August 2026.

The event was organised by the Federation of Tibetan Cooperatives in India (FTCI), with coordination handled by the Tibetan Handicraft Production Cum Sales Cooperative Society Ltd., Dharamsala.

This annual gathering served as a valuable platform, bringing together representatives from Tibetan cooperative societies across the country to share experiences, assess the sector’s achievements and challenges, and deliberate on ways to build stronger cooperation, long-term sustainability, and community-driven economic growth.

📍 Capacity Building Programme on Geographical Indications (GI) & Post-GI Livelihood Promotion Successfully Concluded at Namsai

We are pleased to share that the Secretary of our Cooperative Society and the Manager-cum-In-Charge of the Arunachal Pradesh Handmade Carpet Unit & Showroom participated in the Three-Day Capacity Building Programme on Geographical Indications (GI) & Post-GI Initiatives for Livelihood, held at Namsai from 17th to 19th June 2026.

The programme was organised by BIRD, Kolkata, the apex training institute of NABARD, with the objective of strengthening stakeholders’ capacities in GI registration, branding, packaging, value addition, marketing, and post-GI livelihood promotion.

The programme brought together representatives from NGOs, FPOs, OFPOs, government departments, and other key stakeholders from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Participants benefited from expert-led technical sessions covering GI registration processes, branding and marketing strategies, post-GI challenges, institutional support mechanisms, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

A major highlight of the programme was the Exposure-cum-Field Visit to successful GI initiatives, including:
🔹 Khaw Tai (Khamti Rice) Processing Unit, Lathao
🔹 Tangsa Textile Handloom Cluster, Nongtham
🔹 GI-Tagged Arunachal Pradesh Handmade Carpet Unit, Miao
🔹 NABARD-supported Rural Marts

The programme provided valuable insights into value chain development, market linkage, branding, and entrepreneurship opportunities based on GI products. It also reinforced the importance of preserving traditional knowledge and promoting sustainable livelihoods through GI-based enterprises.

Our Society remains committed to strengthening the promotion, branding, and market reach of the GI-Tagged Arunachal Pradesh Handmade Carpet, while ensuring greater recognition and economic benefits for our skilled artisans and weavers.

On 16th of June 2026, Tuesday, our cooperative society feels immense pride and privileged to welcome our friend, guide, motivator all in one Shri. Kamal Roy AGM cm DDM of NABARD, during his visit, he shared his valuable experiences and insights with new secretary, especially regarding GI for our society’s Handmade carpet, the visit & the meeting with our office bearer went more far beyond our expectations, we highly thank Kamal sir, for your continuous cooperation and support towards our society, to be honest, our society is thankful for eternity.

From 25th to 28th March, our settlement had the profound honor of organizing a sacred Tenshuk (Long Life Offering) ceremony dedicated to His Eminence Gyetrul Jigme Norbu Rinpoche. These blessed days were filled with devotion, gratitude, and spiritual reflection.

On the 26th, our cooperative society was immensely fortunate to receive His Eminence’s precious blessings and deeply transformative teachings—moments that will continue to guide us for years to come. On the same day at noon, we were further privileged to host His Eminence for a humble lunch at our very own Tibet Café & Restaurant—an institution that stands today as a testament to his unwavering support and visionary guidance since its inception.

Both the ceremonial offering and the luncheon were carried out with great success and heartfelt joy. Most touching of all was witnessing His Eminence’s delight in returning to what he fondly considers his home. His blessings, wisdom, and enduring connection to our settlement will remain etched in our hearts for eternity.
