Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve, nestled in the biodiverse heart of Arunachal Pradesh, marked World Elephant Day 2025 with a heartfelt celebration honouring the majestic Asiatic Elephant and those who dedicate their lives to its care and conservation. Shri Wangki Lowang, Hon’ble Minister, Environment, Forests & Climate Change, GoAP graced the celebrations as the Chief Guest.
Program also included the formal retirement ceremony of Raj Mala, a beloved captive elephant who has served Namdapha with distinction. The ceremony included a Guard of Honour & Presentation of a Certificate of Excellence for Raj Mala. Hon’ble Minister also Planted a sapling to commemorate her legacy followed by feeding all the captive elephants.
Shri Wangki Lowang emphasized the critical importance of elephant conservation, community involvement, and sustainable coexistence. He praised the dedication of Namdapha’s field staff, acknowledging their tireless efforts in safeguarding the park’s rich biodiversity and ecological integrity. He reiterated the department’s commitment to empowering local communities and strengthening field operations through training, resources, and collaborative conservation strategies.
CF & Field Director Namdapha Shri A.K. Deka, IFS also addressed the gathering, highlighting the unique role Namdapha plays in protecting endangered species like elephants and white bellied heron.
Namdapha is home to Big Four cats namely Tiger, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard and Indian Leopard along with more than 1800 species of fauna and 1100 species of flora, which highlights the importance of the park’s pristine habitats and conservation efforts.
