Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra established in 1990 as support organisation works for the empowerment of socially and economically backward communities by promoting their participation for good governance, through capacity building of CSO’s, CBO’s and institutions of local self government. The strategy of SSK is to work with CSO’s, CBO’s and ot

her change making groups through training, experimentation, creating new knowledge through research/ documentation and public advocacy for policy change. To enrich its capacity building programs and facilitating creation of new knowledge implementation sites are established by SSK. Presently there are 4 implementation sites in 4 regions of Uttar Pradesh i.e. Mirzapur in southern part of the state, Sitapur and Baharaich in central part of the state, Varanasi in eastern part and Ghaziabad in western part of the state.

Under the Samarth Samuday Pariyojana, implemented by Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra across 10 villages of Kaiserganj Block in Bahraich district, general health camps were successfully organised to improve access to basic healthcare services for rural communities. The camps aimed to address common health concerns and promote awareness regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, and overall well-being among villagers.

During the camps, free health check-ups and consultations were provided by medical professionals, along with the distribution of free medicines to the beneficiaries. Special attention was given to women, children, elderly people, and vulnerable families to ensure timely medical support at the community level. Through these health camps, around 1500 people from the project villages benefited from essential healthcare services.

The initiative not only helped in identifying and addressing immediate health issues but also strengthened awareness regarding cleanliness, nutrition, seasonal diseases, and healthy practices. The programme contributed towards building healthier and more informed communities while reinforcing the importance of accessible healthcare services in rural areas.

Under the SAKSHAM Project, Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra (SSK), Lucknow is conducting a 4-day training on “Program Planning, Project Management and Project Proposal Writing” for NGOs from across Jharkhand from 20th to 23rd May 2026. A total of 25 participants from 16 organisations across Jharkhand are participating in the training.

Today marked the 3rd day of the training. As part of today’s sessions, participants attended an insightful online session on "Budgeting Related Issues in Project Proposal Preparation” with Mr. Shiddalingesh Ballolli, Coordinator, SBI Foundation, Mumbai. The session focused on budget planning, financial management, and common challenges faced while preparing project proposals.

The interactive discussion and Q&A session provided valuable practical insights to the participants and further strengthened their understanding of proposal development and budgeting processes.

Under the Samarth Samuday Pariyojana, implemented by Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra across 10 villages of Kaiserganj Block in Bahraich district, frontline workers including ASHA, Anganwadi Workers, and Apda Mitras (AAA members) were strengthened through a one-day capacity-building training programme on health, hygiene, nutrition, and disaster management.

The training focused on enhancing the knowledge and practical skills of frontline workers so they can effectively support communities during both normal and emergency situations, especially during floods and other disasters. Participants were oriented on disaster preparedness, early warning systems, safety measures, first aid, CPR, and emergency response mechanisms. Through participatory activities and discussions, AAA members also identified local challenges and explored community-based solutions to strengthen preparedness and resilience.

Special emphasis was given to the important role of frontline workers in spreading awareness, supporting vulnerable families, coordinating with local authorities, and ensuring timely response during emergencies. The programme helped build confidence among participants and further strengthened community-level support systems for safer, healthier, and more resilient villages.

Strengthening grassroots democracy begins with strong facilitators.

On 19th May 2026, a one-day Orientation Program was successfully conducted at Chinia Panchayat Bhawan under the project Strengthening Local Self Governance. The program brought together PFs and CRPs to prepare for the upcoming training sessions for Standing Committee Members, Traditional Leaders, Gram Pradhans, and Gram Sachivalaya Operators across the Panchayats of Ramkanda and Chinia blocks.

During the orientation, PFs and CRPs actively stepped into the role of trainers, practiced facilitation methods, and developed a deeper understanding of participatory learning processes. The rehearsal helped build confidence, clarity, and collective readiness to effectively facilitate community-based training at the grassroots level.

The session reflected the spirit of collective leadership, community participation, and stronger local self-governance. Together, we move towards empowered Gram Sabhas and accountable village institutions.

On 1st May 2026, Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra marked Labour Day across all 07 Gram Panchayats of Ramkanda Block with energy, unity, and purpose.

Through interactive discussions, pledge-taking, and community activities, workers came together to reflect on their rights, dignity, and the power of collective action. The celebration was not just an event—it was a step towards building stronger Gram Sabhas and more aware communities.

With the shared vision of “Strong Gram Sabha – Aware Workers – Safe Migration,” participants pledged to seek local employment, actively engage in Gram Sabha, ensure fair wages, and make informed decisions before migration.

The enthusiastic participation of women, men, youth, and Panchayat representatives made the day truly impactful—showcasing the strength of community-led change.

Together, we move towards empowered villages and secured livelihoods.

*Program Management and Proposal Writing Training*

Under the Saksham Project, Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra is organizing a 4-day residential training on Program Management and Proposal Writing from 20th–23rd May 2026 in Daltonganj, Jharkhand.

As the Local Resource Center (LRC) under the Saksham Project in Palamu, Jharkhand, Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra will bring together dedicated participants from diverse Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) across the state to strengthen their institutional and programmatic capacities.

*Across the four days, participants will:*

1️⃣ Strengthen their understanding of program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for effective project management

2️⃣ Develop practical skills in writing impactful and fundable project proposals aligned with donor expectations and community needs

3️⃣ Explore strategies for resource mobilization, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability

This training is more than a learning space — it is a platform to build stronger organizations, encourage collaboration, and enhance the collective capacity of CSOs to create meaningful and sustainable social change.

Under the Samarth Samuday Pariyojana, implemented by Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra across 10 villages of Kaiserganj Block in Bahraich district, 15 members from each village, making a total of 150 members of Village Disaster Management Committees (VDMCs), were strengthened through an intensive disaster preparedness and response training programme. The training equipped community members with practical knowledge and life-saving skills to respond effectively during emergencies such as floods, fire, lightning, snake bites, and disease outbreaks. Participants learned CPR techniques, first aid, fire safety measures, and emergency response systems, helping them become more confident and prepared to support their villages during disasters.

Special focus was given to practical demonstrations using locally available resources, where participants learned how to make emergency stretchers using cloth and bamboo/wood and prepare life jackets using plastic bottles for rescue situations during floods. Through interactive activities, discussions, and visual learning sessions, VDMC members also strengthened their understanding of early warning systems, safe evacuation, relief coordination, and community awareness. The training played an important role in building stronger, disaster-resilient communities and promoting collective responsibility towards village safety and preparedness.

Under the Samarth Samuday Pariyojana, implemented by Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra across 10 villages of Kaiserganj Block, Bahraich, a Block-Level Consultation Meeting was successfully organised at the Block Auditorium. The programme was inaugurated by BDO Sachin Bharti through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

During the meeting, community members, WASH volunteers, and project beneficiaries shared experiences on improved sanitation, sustainable livelihoods, organic farming, vermi composting, trellis cultivation, and the positive impact of the Mobile Resource Centre. Women beneficiaries also highlighted the benefits of improved access to community bathrooms and hygiene facilities.

Addressing the gathering, BDO Sachin Bharti appreciated the continued efforts of Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra in strengthening vulnerable communities and promoting disaster preparedness, especially in flood-prone areas. Representatives from the Health Department, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and Block Administration also appreciated the project’s focus on women empowerment, sanitation, sustainable agriculture, and community resilience.

The consultation reflected a strong collective commitment towards building safer, stronger, and more resilient villages.

Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra (SSK), Lucknow, under the Saksham Project and in collaboration with LRC Tarun Bharat Sangh, successfully organized a two-day national workshop on “Water and Women: Governance, Wellbeing & Climate Change” on 7–8 May 2026 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The workshop brought together subject experts, civil society organizations, grassroots workers, women representatives, researchers, practitioners, media professionals, and social activists from different states across the country to collectively deliberate on the growing challenges related to water governance, climate change, women’s wellbeing, health, livelihoods, and sustainable development.

Over the two days, the workshop created a meaningful platform for dialogue, reflection, and collective learning. Discussions focused on how the issue of water is not merely about access to resources, but is deeply connected with dignity, health, equality, livelihoods, rights, migration, and overall wellbeing — especially for women and marginalized communities.

Several inspiring field experiences and case studies were shared during the workshop, including women-led water conservation initiatives, spring revival efforts, rainwater harvesting systems, water budgeting practices, groundwater recharge models, community participation mechanisms, and local governance approaches from different parts of India.

Participants highlighted the critical role of women as leaders and custodians in water conservation and governance processes. The workshop also emphasized the importance of traditional knowledge systems, community leadership, participatory planning, and multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing the growing water crisis in the context of climate change.

Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra remains committed to continuing such meaningful initiatives and dialogues in the coming years across different states of India to further strengthen community-led approaches on water governance, climate resilience, and women’s wellbeing.

Three-Day Training Program successfully completed on Spring Shed & Watershed Management

Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra successfully organized a three-day technical training program for project staff under Plamu Water initiative. The training focused on strengthening scientific understanding and field-level application of watershed management.

Participants learned about groundwater systems, aquifer, porosity, permeability, rock behavior, , springs, watershed boundaries, stream orders, recharge zones, and watershed treatment structures such as contour, trenches, staggered contour, continuous contour, percolation tanks, plantation, vegitation, 5% model and the 30×40 model.

Field practical sessions were conducted in Shishwa village, where participants carried out water source inventory, water discharge measurement, hydrogeological mapping, dip, direction, Strike analysis, watershed springshed recharge area demarcation, and watershed structure planning. A special session on GIS application Google Earth Pro demonstrated digital watershed mapping and planning techniques.

The training strengthened participants’ technical capacity to promote groundwater recharge, climate resilience, community participation, and sustainable watershed management for long-term water security.
