Southern Railway, Madurai Division organised Safety Samvad β an interactive session on fire incidents β at Vaigai Club, Railway Colony, Madurai today(3.6.2026). Shri Lalit Mansukhani, Principal Chief Safety Officer, and Shri Omprakash Meena, Divisional Railway Manager, addressed the participants.
The Deputy Chief Safety Officer, along with Branch Officers of Madurai Division, presented various aspects of fire incidents that have occurred in the Railway system and the measures to prevent such incidents. Apart from possible fire hazards at stations, trains on the run, and stabled trains/coaches, areas involving public and passenger safety were also discussed during the Samvad.
Key issues highlighted during the session included dispatch of two-wheelers in parcel vans without properly draining petrol tanks, carrying of crackers and other inflammable materials during train travel, illegal use of cooking cylinders and stoves in tourist coaches, and dumping of waste along the trackside and setting fire to it. Staff and supervisors were alerted to act proactively in preventing such fire incidents.
It was also emphasised that while parcelling electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers, disconnection of the battery is mandatory, and vehicles will not be accepted as parcels without battery disconnection.
