AALI was founded in 1998 in the wake of the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing, China in 1995.

AALI is a women-led organization, which believes in the power of women's leadership to create a just and equal world for women, children, and marginalised groups and is dedicated to playing a crucial role in their empowerment. From its outset, AALI harnessed the UN's Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) as its primary ideological framework. The organiz

ation adopted a rights-based approach as its entry point and has elected to concentrate its work on ensuring women's rights in the private sphere, though over the years AALI's interventions have encompassed a wide-ranging critical area of focus. Since its establishment, AALI has aimed to create a feminist space in the state of Uttar Pradesh, popularly seen as the stronghold of a highly patriarchal and feudal social order. Often in partnership with like-minded organizations, over the past decade AALI has carried out research, advocacy, and response to violations of women's human rights. Key elements of AALI's efforts have included the sharing of technical resources and engagement with various outside actors at the state, national and international levels.

🌸 We are proud to share some of the testimonies of the One Stop Centre Capacity Strengthening Program; a multi-phase training series designed to equip One Stop Centre staff with the knowledge, skills, and sensitivity needed to serve women and girls facing violence.

🎯 What We Set Out to Achieve:

This program was built with a clear purpose to strengthen the capacity of OSC staff including Centre Managers, Counsellors, and Caseworkers, so that every survivor who walks through the door receives support that is dignified, informed, and effective.

💛 The Impact:

Participants left with greater confidence, sharper legal literacy, stronger counselling skills, and a renewed commitment to serving survivors with compassion and dignity.

Across schools in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Bihar, our Caseworkers and Young Caseworkers sat down with adolescents to talk about something that shapes their futures- child marriage.

Students didn’t just listen, they also spoke up about how child marriage affects education, health, and dreams. They explored what it means to make informed decisions about their own lives, and why that power should belong to them.

Through open discussions and hands-on activities, these sessions challenged harmful norms, sparked critical thinking, and built a sense of community around change. 💬🌱

Miss-Quote Mondays: Final Week🎊

Helen Keller (1880–1968) was an American author, disability rights advocate, political activist, and lecturer who became one of history’s most inspiring figures, not despite her challenges, but because of how she rose above them.

At just 19 months old, an illness left her both deaf and blind. Lost in a world of silence and darkness, many assumed she would live a limited life. Then came Anne Sullivan, her devoted teacher, who unlocked the world of language for young Helen through a now-legendary moment at a water pump.

Helen went on to graduate cm laude from Radcliffe College, becoming the first deafblind person to earn a bachelor’s degree. She authored 12 books, traveled to 35 countries, and devoted her life to fighting for the blind, the poor, women’s suffrage, and world peace.

Her life is a timeless reminder that the only limitations are the ones we accept and that with the right guide and an unbreakable will, nothing is truly out of reach. 🌿

✨On May 13, 2026, the Association for Advocacy and Legal Initiatives Trust (AALI) conducted a comprehensive workshop in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The session was specifically designed for members of Internal Committees and Local Committees.

The workshop was attended by senior district officials, including the Chief Development Officer, District Programme Officer, District Disability Empowerment Officer, Circle Officer (Sadar), Principal Assistant (Labour Department), and District Probation Officer, reflecting strong administrative engagement and support.

A total of 80 stakeholders representing 29 departments attended the programme, with 75 participants engaging in a structured session on workplace sexual harassment for the first time. The participants represented a wide range of departments, including the Child Welfare Committee, Judiciary, Animal Husbandry, Police, Backward Class Welfare, Block Development Office, Women Welfare, Health, Education, Medical Education, Irrigation, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Social Welfare, Horticulture and Food Processing, Provincial Guard, Sports and Youth Welfare, Disha Global Foundation, District Hospital Office, District Inspector of Schools Office, Rural Development, National Rural Livelihood Mission, Integrated Child Development Services, Dairy Development, among others.

The participants actively contributed to the discussions and proceedings, ensuring a highly participatory and impactful learning environment.

Rising through political adversity and leading Liberia through recovery and reform, she has inspired generations to pursue change with determination and purpose.

Her words remind us that meaningful growth begins when we step beyond comfort zones and dare to pursue ambitions that challenge us to become better leaders, professionals, and individuals.

Miss-Quote Mondays: Week 15🎊

Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897, in Atchison, Kansas, to Samuel “Edwin” Stanton Earhart and Amelia “Amy” Earhart. From a young age, she showed an adventurous spirit and refused to let society’s expectations define her future. She went on to become one of the most celebrated aviation pioneers in history, breaking barriers for women around the world.

In 1932, Earhart made history as the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for her achievement. Beyond her record-breaking flights, she was also an author, advocate for women in aviation, and one of the founders of The Ninety-Nines, an organization supporting female pilots.

During her attempt to fly around the world in 1937, Earhart mysteriously disappeared over the Pacific Ocean, leaving behind one of history’s greatest unsolved mysteries. Yet her courage, determination, and fearless pursuit of the impossible continue to inspire generations to dream bigger and soar higher. 💫

✨On 21 April 2026, AALI organised a youth workshop at Jagannath Nagar College, Dhurwa, Ranchi on the topic “Consent and Understanding Boundaries.”

The session covered key topics including consent, stalking, voyeurism, blackmail, cyber blackmail, and sexual grooming. Students actively engaged in discussions, sharing their perspectives and experiences, which made the workshop insightful and interactive.

The workshop aimed to spread awareness about personal safety, respectful relationships, digital responsibility, and the importance of recognizing unsafe behaviors both online and offline.
