Association for Advocacy and Legal Initiatives Trust- AALI AALI was founded in 1998 in the wake of the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing, China in 1995.

AALI is a women-led organization, which believes in the power of women's leadership to create a just and equal world for women, children, and marginalised groups and is dedicated to playing a crucial role in their empowerment. From its outset, AALI harnessed the UN's Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) as its primary ideological framework. The organization adopted a rights-based approach as its entry point and has elected to concentrate its work on ensuring women's rights in the private sphere, though over the years AALI's interventions have encompassed a wide-ranging critical area of focus. Since its establishment, AALI has aimed to create a feminist space in the state of Uttar Pradesh, popularly seen as the stronghold of a highly patriarchal and feudal social order. Often in partnership with like-minded organizations, over the past decade AALI has carried out research, advocacy, and response to violations of women's human rights. Key elements of AALI's efforts have included the sharing of technical resources and engagement with various outside actors at the state, national and international levels.

🕯️A significant reminder from the Supreme Court that care work, parenting, and financial responsibility cannot always be reduced to numbers.

The judgment in Sujata Kumari & Ors. v. Rahul Kumar & Anr. reinforces the need to view maintenance through the lens of children’s needs, parental responsibility, and the lived realities of caregiving.

A recognition that parental responsibility must be understood beyond income alone, with the care and everyday labour of raising children given due consideration.

🔆Youth voices are essential to building a more equal, safe, and just society. Through its Youth Workshops, AALI creates spaces for young people to critically engage with gender, equality, consent, bodily autonomy, safety, and legal protections; bridging everyday experiences with the laws and social frameworks that shape their lives.

On 14 August 2026, AALI conducted a Youth Workshop at T.S. Mishra University, Lucknow, with 51 Law students, as part of the University’s Orientation Programme. The first workshop at the University since it became an MOU partner, the session explored consent, bodily autonomy, healthy relationships, online safety, and sexual offences under the BNS, 2023 through interactive discussions and reflection.

The students’ active participation highlighted the importance of embedding gender-sensitive and survivor-centric perspectives in legal education and marked a meaningful beginning to continued learning and collaboration between AALI and T.S. Mishra University.

✨On 24–25 July, the Association for Advocacy and Legal Initiatives (AALI) Trust organized a two-day Capacity Building of Grassroot Leaders (CBGL) Workshop, bringing together 113 grassroots leaders from 73 districts across nine states.

Day 1 | Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA)
Participants explored domestic violence, institutional responsibilities, psychosocial dimensions, legal remedies, implementation gaps, and survivor-centred responses.

Day 2 | Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013
The focus shifted to workplace sexual harassment, including complaint and inquiry procedures, the roles of Internal and Local Committees, institutional accountability, and strengthening safe and equitable workplaces.

Both days featured interactive expert panel discussions, moderated by Ms. Renu Mishra, Executive Director, AALI, providing participants an opportunity to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and discuss practical challenges and solutions related to the implementation of these laws.

✨On 28 July 2026, AALI conducted a Youth Workshop at Karamat Husain Muslim Girls’ Inter College, Nishatganj, Lucknow, with the participation of around 95 girl students.

The workshop provided a platform for meaningful discussions on consent, bodily autonomy, healthy relationships, online safety, and sexual offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The session encouraged participants to better understand their entitlements, recognise unsafe situations, and make informed decisions while fostering mutual respect and dignity.

The active participation of the students reflected their eagerness to engage with issues that directly affect their lives.

One Stop Centre Capacity Strengthening Programme ✊

Hearing directly from participants of the One Stop Centre training programme is truly heartening. Their testimonies reflect how deeply relevant the sessions have been, and how the learning is actively shaping their work with survivors.

From strengthening on-ground responses to sharing knowledge within their teams, participants are carrying these insights forward; creating ripples of impact that extend far beyond the training space.

It is gratifying to observe that the learning gained through this programme, has not just been received, but practiced and passed on.

✨23 जुलाई 2026 को सूरजपति कन्या विद्यालय, कोरौती, वाराणसी में AALI द्वारा दो यूथ कार्यशालाओं का आयोजन किया गया, जिनमें कुल 226 छात्राओं ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया।

कार्यशालाओं में सहमति (Consent), बॉडी ऑटोनॉमी (Bodily Autonomy), स्टॉकिंग, वॉयरिज़्म (Voyeurism) और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य जैसे महत्वपूर्ण विषयों पर संवाद किया गया। इन सत्रों ने छात्राओं को अपने अधिकारों, सुरक्षा और गरिमापूर्ण जीवन के प्रति जागरूक होने का अवसर प्रदान किया।

कार्यक्रम के दौरान शिक्षकों और छात्राओं ने इस बात पर बल दिया कि वर्तमान समय की चुनौतियों को देखते हुए प्रत्येक विद्यालय और महाविद्यालय में इस प्रकार की कार्यशालाओं का नियमित आयोजन आवश्यक है। सभी छात्राओं की सक्रिय और उत्साहपूर्ण सहभागिता ने इस पहल को सार्थक बनाया।

✨On 10–11 July 2026, AALI, in collaboration with the Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security (DWCD), Government of Jharkhand, conducted a two-day capacity-building programme for Local Committee (LC) Members and Chairpersons in Ranchi.

The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Kiran Kumari Pasi, Director, DWCD, who highlighted the critical role of Local Committees in ensuring the effective implementation of the POSH Act, 2013 and creating safe, inclusive workplaces for women.

52 participants from all 24 districts of Jharkhand participated in this training, which aimed to strengthen their understanding of gender equality, gender sensitivity, and the provisions of the SHWW Act. The training proved to be a platform for the participants to enhance their knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Local Committees and develop skills to address workplace sexual harassment complaints with greater confidence, sensitivity, and accountability.

The active participation and exchange of experiences throughout the programme made the sessions engaging, collaborative, and impactful.
