Je Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) and Nyung Ne (fasting retreat) are two pillars of spiritual practice in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. While Nyung Ne is a specific fasting and purification ritual centered on Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), Je Tsongkhapa is the founder of the Gelug tradition that widely propagates this practice as a core method for purifying karma and developing compassion.
