As the founders of Ladakh Basket, we remain deeply grateful to Your Holiness for your unwavering guidance, encouragement, support, and the opportunities you have given us. Whatever little impact we are able to make in our society today is, in many ways, because of your compassionate guidance and belief in young people.

Opportunities such as the Naropa Fellowship opened new doors for us, strengthened our confidence, and inspired us to work with greater purpose for our farmers, communities, culture, and environment.

Yesterday, on this auspicious day, we proudly inaugurated the Ladakh Basket Café & Store at Choglamsar.

The most special part of the day was not having a chief guest—it was having 38 of our farmers inaugurate the café by cutting the ribbon themselves. Their hands have nurtured the land, grown our food, and inspired the vision of Ladakh Basket. It was a heartfelt reminder that our farmers are not just suppliers—they are the true foundation of Ladakh Basket.

We were deeply honoured to be joined by Chef Kunzes Angmo, one of Ladakh's most respected chefs, who shared inspiring thoughts on the importance of preserving our rich culinary heritage and passing traditional food knowledge to future generations.

We were also privileged to welcome Padma Rigzin from Local Futures and the Local Futures team, who spoke about the importance of village life, localization, and building resilient local economies that empower communities and farmers.

A special thanks to Norboo, Founder of Startup School Ladakh, for joining us and encouraging our farmers and young entrepreneurs with his valuable insights.

Today, many people speak about the harmful effects of junk food on our health. At Ladakh Basket, we believe that change begins with what we eat. Through our café, we are making a sincere effort to serve wholesome, nutritious food made from whole wheat, locally sourced ingredients, and traditional Himalayan recipes. Our commitment is simple—to continue serving healthy food for as long as possible while supporting local farmers and preserving our food heritage.

Climate change is real.

Due to unpredictable weather patterns—hot days followed by sudden cold spells—we couldn't sow our Chamomile tea on time this year.

Today, we are finally preparing our fields for the season, hoping for a better harvest ahead. Farmers are among the first to feel the impact of changing climates, and every season brings new challenges.

Still, we continue to adapt, learn, and grow.

Today, we are proud to launch Grow School, an initiative of Ladakh Basket.

For generations, our elders passed down wisdom through farming, culture, and everyday life. As modernization grows, much of this knowledge risks being lost.

Grow School aims to reconnect children with their roots through hands-on learning from the land. Through seasonal farming activities, children will learn about nature, food, responsibility, resilience, and the values that have sustained our communities for centuries.

We are not just growing vegetables for our school hostel—we are growing knowledge, values, and future leaders who remain connected to their heritage.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our Rong Councilllor Thinles Nurboo Ladakh Himalayas and and Royal Enfield for supporting this initiative turning in to reality. Special thanks to and Youth Co:Lab Citi foundation Bangkok, whose inspiration, mentorship and learning helped plant the seeds of this dream.

Together, we are growing a stronger and more sustainable future for Ladakh.

Spring's First Gift: Wheat & Tradition

Watch as our fields come alive this spring! In this video, our Dzos guide the plow through Ladakh's sacred soil, sowing wheat—the crop that demands patience and time, unlike the quicker barley and mustard seasons.

But this isn't just about farming. It's about us.

In our villages, when the fields call, our people answer together. Neighbors become a chorus of hands, hearts, and shared purpose. This is how we've always done it—and this is how we keep our roots alive.

A bittersweet truth: Many Ladakhi villages have watched this beautiful tradition fade away. The fields that once echoed with collective labor now stand quiet. But not ours. Not yet.

Our Dzos aren't just working animals—they're family. We nurture them with the same love and care we give our own. They're partners in this sacred dance between tradition and survival, between the old world and the new.

At Ladakh Basket, we believe in keeping our heritage alive while stepping boldly into tomorrow. Every plow turn, every seed sown, every voice raised in the fields—it's an act of resistance and renewal.

This is Ladakh. This is us.

Over the past two days, the Ladakh Basket team, along with 7 dedicated farmers, had the opportunity to participate in a National Workshop on Enhancing Apricot Cultivation and Value Chain Development in Ladakh.

It was an enriching experience where we actively engaged, learned from experts, and gained valuable insights into improving cultivation practices and strengthening the apricot value chain in our region.

Our founder, Thinles Norboo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Horticulture Department for organizing this first-of-its-kind workshop. He highlighted how such platforms not only provide technical knowledge but also create meaningful opportunities for farmers to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another.

He also extend sincere thanks to the UT Administration of Ladakh for continuously supporting local entrepreneurs through workshops, training programs, and trade fair exhibition opportunities. These initiatives are empowering rural communities and encouraging sustainable livelihoods.

While sharing his thoughts, Thinles emphasized an important message for all:
“Let us focus on maintaining the value of our products through consistent quality, rather than simply chasing higher quantities.”

At Ladakh Basket, we strongly believe that authenticity and quality matter the most, especially as we strive to compete in wider markets while staying true to our roots.

From the mountains of Ladakh to the hills of Himachal — ideas, inspiration, and hope for the future.
We are proud to share that our co-founder Thinles Norboo participated in the 2nd Green Hub Festival at Fagu, organized by Green Hub in collaboration with Royal Enfield Social Mission.
For Ladakh Basket, it was truly an honor to be part of such a vibrant gathering of youth leaders, storytellers, and changemakers from across the Himalayan region and central India. The festival offered us a wonderful opportunity to showcase our local products and share the journey of working with farmers and communities across Ladakh.
What made this experience even more meaningful was connecting with passionate young people who are using storytelling, filmmaking, and grassroots action to protect culture, environment, and local livelihoods. The Green Hub Video Fellowship and Conservation Grants stand as powerful initiatives that empower youth to document the voices and stories of their own communities — something the world needs to see and hear.
It was deeply inspiring to witness so many organizations working tirelessly on the ground in diverse fields—from conservation and sustainable livelihoods to culture and youth empowerment. Their dedication and impact remind us that the future of our country is in good hands.

At Ladakh Basket, we also shared our initiative Grow School in Liktsey, where we work with school children to reconnect with traditional farming practices while integrating modern knowledge and skills. We strongly believe that the future belongs to our children. If we can nurture them with both ancestral wisdom and contemporary learning, we can build a more resilient Ladakh, a stronger India, and a healthier planet.
Grateful for the inspiration, the conversations, and the collective vision we witnessed at this festival.
The mountains may be far apart, but our dreams for a sustainable future are deeply connected.
