Day Two — Session One (Morning)

Presentation 1 — Dr. Orgyen Droldul
Dr. Orgyen Dhadul delivered a presentation on the importance of the Bhoti language as a medium for the preservation and transmission of Buddhist teachings. A student question-and-answer session followed successfully.
Presentation 2 — Prof. Lobsang Tsewang
Prof. Lobsang Tsewang presented on the doctrine of Dependent Origination, exploring its philosophical implications and relevance to practice. An in-depth question-and-answer session with teachers and students followed.
Presentation 3 — Lopon Shedrup Orgyen, Dragön Monastery
Lopon Shedrup Orgyen of Dakgon Monastery delivered a presentation on the Seven-Limb Prayer and its role in the accumulation of merit and purification. A public question-and-answer session followed.
Presentation 4 — Khenpo Shedrup Konchok
Khenpo Shedrup Konchok delivered a talk on the harmful effects of alcohol and sexual misconduct, grounded in Buddhist ethical reasoning. A lively question-and-answer session with both the public and students followed.
The chairperson, Dr. Tsultrim Gyatso, then offered a synthesizing summary of the morning’s presentations, and the session concluded successfully.

Day Two — Session Two (Afternoon)
Chaired by Prof. Lobsang Tsewang
Presentation 5 — Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim
Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim presented on the Four Means of Gathering Disciples, examining how these four qualities enable a teacher to effectively guide students on the path. A student question-and-answer session followed.
Presentation 6 — Dr. Lobsang Tsultrim
Dr. Lobsang Tsultrim delivered a presentation on the significance of the Seven-Branch Prayer in daily practice, highlighting its role as a comprehensive method for accumulating merit and purifying obscurations. A question-and-answer session with both students and the general audience followed. The chairperson, Prof. Lobsang Tsewang, offered a closing summary, and the main seminar discussions were brought to an auspicious conclusion.
Approximately 300 participants attended Day Two, including local residents of Sakti, teachers and students from the three schools, and the Khenpo and students of Chemdey Monastery.
Closing Ceremony
The two-day seminar on Buddhist Philosophy and Its Practice, jointly organized by the Department of Bhot Bauddh Darshan and the Department of Sampradaya Shastra of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (Deemed to be University), was formally concluded at the Sakti Village Community Hall on June 20, 2026, with the following programme:
1. Lighting of Butter Lamps and Welcome Address
The chief guest and honored guests lit the butter lamps before the sacred images of the Buddha, after which Dr. Lobsang Tsultrim delivered the welcome address.
2. Reflections from Participants
Teachers from Sakti Konsal School, a students from Chemdey Monastery’s school, and teachers from Jamyang School each shared their personal reflections and impressions of the seminar, offering perspectives from both the academic and monastic communities.
3. Address by Former Member of Parliament
Mr. Rigzin Tsering, former Member of Parliament, shared his reflections on the significance of the seminar and its contribution to Buddhist education in the region.
4. Address by the Honored Guest
Mr. Tashi Dorje, President of the Choekul Association and honored guest, delivered a formal address acknowledging the efforts of the organizers and the importance of such academic initiatives.
5. Address by the Chief Guest
The chief guest, Dr. Tsering Choldan, Deputy Registrar of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, delivered the keynote closing address, reflecting on the academic and spiritual value of the two-day seminar and commending all participants and presenters.
6. Vote of Thanks and Dedication of Merit
Khenpo Jamyang Kunsang delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the organizing committee. The seminar was formally concluded with a dedication of merit, bringing the entire two-day programme to an auspicious and successful close.

Additional note: On the evening of June 19, at the Sakti Community Hall, two students of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Rigzen Norbu and Dorje Chunu, delivered a visual presentation (with projected slides) on the Wheel of Life to the local residents of Sakti. The session was well received by the audience.

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, a yoga session was organized at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar, Leh, under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Stanzin Chosrab, Assistant Professor, Sowa Rigpa Department, CIBS. The yoga session was led by Ms. Sonam Chuskit and Mr. Tsewang Lodan, students of the Sowa Rigpa Department, who guided the participants through various yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation practices.
The session highlighted the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being, and promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Students actively participated in the session, along with the staff members of the Institute, who attended and took part enthusiastically.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from all attendees and a message to incorporate yoga into daily life for overall health and wellness.

Buddhist Philosophy and Its Practice
Sakti Village | June 19–20, 2026
Jointly organized by the Department of Bhot Bauddh Darshan and the Department of Sampradaya Shastra, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (Deemed to be University), Choglamsar, Leh, UT of Ladakh
Opening Ceremony
Prior to the commencement of the seminar, the event’s chairman, Mr. Rinchen Namgyal (President of the Khargu Buddhist Association), and the guest of honor, Mr. Stanzin Paljor (Leader of Sakti Village), lit the traditional butter lamps before the liberating-on-sight thangkas of Shakyamuni Buddha and Guru Rinpoche. Following this, the seminar committee presented traditional greeting scarves (khata) to the guests to mark an auspicious beginning.
Geshe Dakpa Kalsang, the Convenor of the seminar committee, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the core themes and objectives of the seminar. Mr. Stanzin Paljor, the leader of Sakti village, then gave his speech, followed by the seminar chairperson and Khargu Buddhist Association president, Mr. Rinchen Namgyal, who delivered his speech.
Finally, Dr. Lobsang Tsultrim Bhutia, the vice-chairman of the seminar committee, delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the opening ceremony to a highly successful and auspicious conclusion.
Attendance
The event was attended by nearly 400 participants, including:
• The Vajra Master (Dorje Lopon) and monks of Dakgon Choekhor Pema Ling
• The treasurer, Khenpo, and monastic community of Chemdey Monastery
• The village leader and devout local residents of Sakti
• The president and members of the Choekul Association
• The principal, teachers, and students of Sakti Middle School
• Teachers and students of the 8th grade from Daknak
• Teachers and students from the Sakti Jamyang Model School
Session One — Morning, Day One
Chaired by Geshe Dakpa Kalsang
Presentation 1 — Geshe Lobsang Wangchuk
Geshe Lobsang Wangchuk delivered a talk on the Four Seals of the View Signifying the Buddha’s Teaching. This was followed by a successful question-and-answer session with the students.
Presentation 2 — Dr. Tsultrim Gyatso
Dr. Tsultrim Gyatso spoke on the Three Types of Individuals and their practices. The students then engaged in a question-and-answer session.
Presentation 3 — Khenpo Sherab Gyaltsen (Chemdey Monastery)
Khenpo Sherab Gyaltsen from Chemdey Monastery discussed the Four Powers of Purification and their application in confessing negative actions. This was followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. At the end, the chairperson, Geshe Dakpa Kalsang, gave a summary of the key points of the discussions, and the morning session concluded successfully.
Session Two — Afternoon, Day One
Chaired by Geshe Lobsang Wangchuk
Presentation 4 — Geshe Dakpa Kalsang
Geshe Dakpa Kalsang spoke on the Buddhist concepts of samsara and nirvana. The students then engaged in a question-and-answer session.
Presentation 5 — Mrs. Jigmat Lhamo
Mrs. Jigmat Lhamo gave a talk on the Wheel of Life and its symbolism. This was followed by a question-and-answer session with the students and the audience.
Presentation 6 — Dr. Lodro Rabgye
Dr. Lodro Rabgye spoke on the topic of Taking Refuge. The students then engaged in a question-and-answer session.
Closing of Day One
At the end of the session, the chairperson, Geshe Lobsang Wangchuk, gave a summary of the key points of the discussions. The first day of the seminar concluded successfully. Approximately 400 participants attended, including local residents, Dharma groups, principals and teachers from the three schools in Sakti, and students from Chemdey Monastery.

The Co-curricular Activities Committee, CIBS (Deemed to be University), organized several activities during the first semester of the academic year 2026–27 to support the holistic development of students. The details of the recent events conducted on campus are as follows:

Book Reading Activity (March 28, 2026): University students gathered on the grounds in front of the Academic Block for a dedicated reading session aimed at promoting literary engagement and reading habits among students.

Introduction to AI with Practical Training (April 4, 2026): A hands-on workshop was conducted at the Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium under the supervision of Shri Jamyang Lundup (B.Tech, CSE) and Shri Singay Namgyal (Computer Science Engineer) to introduce university students to the fundamentals and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Guest Lecture on Finding Happiness (April 18, 2026): In coordination with the Sonamling Ghoton Committee, a special lecture was delivered by Ven. Geshe Lhakdor on the topic, “Finding Happiness in an Uncertain World and the Four Commitments of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.” The event witnessed active participation from students of the University Wing, faculty members, and senior secondary students at the Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium.

Exhibition and Presentation by Thanka Painting Students (May 16, 2026): Celebrating the rich heritage of Himalayan art, the Department of Thanka Painting organized an exhibition and presentation showcasing the creative works of students enrolled in the Thanka Painting programme. The students actively participated in presenting their artworks and demonstrations. Speaking on the occasion, the Honourable Vice Chancellor applauded the department and the organizing committee for conducting such programmes for the overall development of students.

We appreciates all students and staff members for their active participation and looks forward to organizing more such engaging programmes in the coming semester.
