Altercation Turns Fatal; Accused Convicted

On 05.03.2023, a dispute over change at a sweet shop on B.T. Road escalated into a physical altercation between Afsar Ali @ Afsar and the shop owner. When a shop worker intervened, he tragically fell into a pan containing boiling sugar syrup, sustaining severe burn injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The accused fled the scene but was subsequently arrested by Cossipore PS. Investigation was completed promptly, and the charge sheet was submitted within the stipulated period.

The Hon’ble Court convicted Afsar Ali @ Afsar under Section 304 Part II IPC and sentenced him to 6 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000. The investigation Officer of this case was SI Anil Kumar Mondal.

₹1.74 Lakh Lost. Every Rupee Recovered.

On 27.09.2026, a Haridevpur resident fell victim to cyber fraud after a fraudster, posing as a bank official, tricked him into sharing his debit card details and OTP. ₹1,74,500 was debited in two transactions.

On receiving the complaint, the South West Division Cyber Cell and Haridevpur Police Station acted swiftly, immediately flagging the transactions and coordinating with the concerned authorities.

Their prompt intervention led to the full recovery and refund of ₹1,74,500 to the victim’s account.

Delighted by the recovery, the beneficiary has shared a heartfelt email of appreciation, commending the team’s promptness, professionalism and dedication.

4th District-Level NCORD Meeting Held at Lalbazar

The 4th District-Level Meeting of the Narco Coordination (NCORD), Kolkata, was held in hybrid mode today at Conference Room-I, Lalbazar, under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Shri Ajay Nand, IPS. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Kolkata, Shri Kunal Aggarwal, IPS, was the Convener.

Senior officers of Kolkata Police and representatives of NCB, Customs, School Education, GST, Excise, Directorate of Drug Control, GRP/RPF, Social Welfare, DRI, Kolkata Port Trust and ANTF, West Bengal, participated in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the prevailing narcotics situation and focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Sharing a few glimpses.

₹2 Lakh Gold Necklace Theft Case Solved

On 19.09.2026, a 13-gram gold necklace worth approximately ₹2 lakh was stolen from a jewellery shop on B.B. Ganguly Street. Posing as a prospective customer, the accused fled with the necklace.

With the shop and adjoining CCTV cameras non-functional, investigators of Muchipara PS meticulously analysed available traffic CCTV footage, followed by field verification and source-based intelligence.

The sustained investigation led to the identification and arrest of Shahrukh Feroz Khan from Garden Reach in the late hours of 27.09.2026. The stolen necklace was recovered intact from his rented accommodation.

A focused investigation. A coordinated effort. Stolen property recovered. Case solved.

Fake SIMs. Fake Identities. A Cyber-Fraud Network Busted.

What began as an investigation into the fraudulent procurement of SIM cards led Kolkata Police to a wider cyber-fraud operation spanning multiple states.

The investigation, initiated on the basis of a report by SI Md. Abbasuddin Biswas of Narkeldanga Police Station following an enquiry by Cyber Cell, ESD, revealed a conspiracy involving forged documents and SIM cards procured in the names of different persons. These SIM cards were allegedly supplied to fraudsters and used for cheating and other cyber-enabled financial crimes.

A breakthrough came with the arrest of Taushif Alam on 17.09.2026. His interrogation led investigators to further suspects and ultimately to a raid at a flat in Hatiara under Eco Park Police Station.

Seven persons were arrested from the flat, which was being used as a fraudulent call centre. Several mobile phones and exercise books containing extensive data, particularly of Andhra Pradesh residents, were seized.

Investigation revealed that the accused, residents of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, had allegedly been brought to Kolkata by Sundar @ Ali. Posing as representatives of a MUDRA Loan company, they allegedly contacted people in Andhra Pradesh and induced them to transfer money into different bank accounts. A deeper network uncovered. The trail is being followed.

Kolkata Police remains committed to tracing every link and bringing every person involved to justice.

As part of a coordinated approach towards Nasha Mukt Bharat, a day-long training programme on Capacity Building on Narcotic Cases was held today at Body Guard Lines Auditorium, Alipore.

The programme was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Shri Ajay Nand IPS, in the presence of senior officers and other distinguished dignitaries.

136 Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors from all Police Stations of Kolkata Police participated in the training, which covered key aspects of narcotic case investigation and prosecution through expert sessions and interactive discussions.

Participation certificates were presented by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Kolkata, Shri Kunal Aggarwal, IPS.

For many young people from financially disadvantaged families, a government job represents not just a career, but hope for a more secure future for their entire family.

Constable Mohanta Halder of Kolkata Leather Complex Police Station, goes beyond his regular duties to provide free coaching and guidance to underprivileged students aspiring to join the police force.

In 2026, he guided 23 aspirants preparing for the West Bengal Police recruitment examination, with 21 successfully qualifying and securing appointment as Constables in West Bengal Police. Free mock interview sessions were also organised at Kolkata Leather Complex PS under the guidance of the Officer-in-Charge.

For these young aspirants, his support meant more than coaching—it gave them confidence to believe that their circumstances need not define their future.
