This school,established on 13th February in 1874,was set up at Hazra Pukur(now Jatin Das Park)by few distinguished educationists with an aim to make it one of the premier institutions of Kolkata.At that time it was known as S.S.S,Kalighat. Pt.Sibnath sastri was the first principal of this school. After few years its name got changed to S.S.S,Bhawanipur.Then this school came to Govinda Bose Lane i.
e. its current position.The Secondary building of the school was built in 1888 by an Italian engineer and its primary building was built in 1908. The renowned Asutosh College was established by this school.This school has a history of helping other schools when they were in need.That includes LMS Inst(now known as S.S.S.(Br)),Sir Ramesh Mitra Balika Vidyalaya,Chakraberia High School etc. The alumnus of this school includes Asutosh Mukherkjee,Uttam Kumar,Tarun Kumar,Robi Ghosh,RameshChandea Majumdar etc. This school has active NCC curriculum.
