Like every year, on 15th August, 2024, the members of AIWC North Suburban Constituent Branch, Talapark hoisted the National Flag in the Office Premises along with Octagenarian Craft Teacher and the Office Bearer. But there was no celebration for the completion of 77 years of Independence of our Country, as the shocking, terrible incident happened with a brilliant lady doctor in the hospital premises on 9th August, forced us to think twice, "Are we, the women of this country really "Free Citizens of an Independent Country? "
Ms. Dipali Dey, Honorary President of the Branch wrote an article in this respect which was read to the members by Secretary, Bhaswati Paul on Independence Day.
According to Ms. Dey, 15th August is just a "Date". Significance of Independence is much deeper and when the context of "freedom of women" arises, through eras and ages the belief persists that it's an unachievable rare commodity. But this shackle can be broken only by Women themselves. But they have to be cautious not to be wayward, imperious. To earn the status of "first class citizen" they have to be self-conscious, self-confident, self- reliant but at the same time humane.
As members of prestigious "ALL INDIA WOMEN'S CONFERENCE" we can recall our past and remeber how the speech of Mr. E.F. Often given in 1926 in the Prize giving ceremony of Bethune College where he addressed women, "who alone can help adequately to remedy what is wrong in women's education" and called them to "TELL US WITH ONE VOICE WHAT THEY WANT ANDKEEP ON TELLING US TILL THEY GET IT"- influenced Margater Cousin and initiated the formation of AIWC.
Following foot steps of our predecessors today we should take oath to work relentlessly until the goal is achieved.
At the same time we will definitely protest peacefully but strongly against any injustice, atrocity especially against women and children.
On midnight, 14th. August,2024 a no. of our members joined the "Rally for Justice" in Kolkata with the moral support of the rest of their co-workers of the Branch.
